Good Friday and Easter monday are public holidays. I took off this Thursday and thinking of taking the other 4 days off after Easter Monday for a nice 11 day break. Anybody else do that?

mechtech, to celebrate the first Sunday after the full moon after the vernal equinox, us Aussies get a 4 day weekend.

No shops or take-away alcohol sales on Friday, no shops on Sunday.

Some places open on Good Friday. Then if that's not enough time off April 25th is Anzac Day another public holiday. If it doesn't fall on a weekend. Any excuse for a holiday here is gratefuly accepted.

In Germany, Good Friday is an official holiday. Since Good Friday is one of the most important Christian holidays (remembrance of the crucifixion), even public dancing events are forbidden (which is a controversial law). The day before, "Green Thursday" (Last Supper Remembrance), is also a holiday. Easter Monday is also an official holiday in Germany. School are closed for about ten days to two weeks over Easter and may people take vacations at this time. 40 days of fasting season end at Easter. The next official holiday is Ascension Thursday, which happens 39 days after Easter Sunday. Schools are closed the Friday after. Pentecost, which occurs 49 days after Easter Sunday is another big holiday and schools are closed for a week and many people take a week-long vacation.

Good Friday is NOT a public holiday.

It is in Canada. Just about everything is closed on Friday. Monday is a regular work day, except for government offices and banks. No school for the kiddies either.

When I first joined the work force we used to get Good Friday off. Then some companies went to 1/2 day. When the secular progressives took over, that went away too. Stock market is closed, though. Soon we'll get Ramadan off.

Social and economic commentary, NOT political or religious!!!!!

In my OPINION Americans have fewer holidays and less vacation (holiday to you wacky Brits) because we have an extremely wealthy elite class to support.

Data varies but somewhere around 85-percent of the national wealth is held by a mere 4- or 5-percent of the population.

In order to support our ultra-wealthy in the manner they are accustomed to we, the people, must work more hours, on average, than any other industrialized nation; even more than the workaholic Japanese.

It is our duty, in my OPINION, to be good patriots and support our elites!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, lambast me. Just realize I base my OPINIONS upon decades of non-fiction reading. Extensive reading of a multitude of books written by folks whose viewpoints eminate from a wide spectrum of backgrounds and beliefs.

Before you lambast me too badly........ where were YOU when i was steaming up the Saigon River, M-60 clutched in my sweaty nervous paws while scanning the treelines?

Have a nice holiday.

And I say inefficiency is king and to blame.

Your data may be more up-to-date thus more accurate.

I was thinking of a chart and article I read around 6 years ago showing the USA at the top.

I wonder if it's possible, what with the millions of jobs outsourced and the continuing increase in service sector jobs, that average hours worked in the USA have decreased.

Might account for the net decrease in income for the bottom 20-percent of American workers I read about.

Possibly overhead in that A1E Sandy, or watching out the window of that OV10. Maybe even back in Thailand loading up the F4's or B-52's. Sometimes pearing over my M60 in that Huey watching the shoreline ahead of you. I do know I wasn't in the same boat as you, just the same ocean.
