Here's my EaO57 that was on my wife's 4.0 jeep inline for (IIRC) 1 MC 5w-20, 2 PP 5w-20, and one corrupted Bruceblend OCI. The MC and PP were in for 5k each ..Bruce's for 3k+. I didn't have time to cut the media off and uncoil it. I've also got images of an M1 filter that was on my 2.5 for 9.5k on my 2.5 for 13 months. Both filters appeared in good health. No breaches ..no obvious grit or anything (the can on the M1 being the exception).

I didn't crop the images ..so it's thumbnail mode

The ADBV is still pliable ..naturally

Nothing else much to mention until I can string the media out (if I can do a neat job of it).

Now the M1 was the bigger PH16 size filter. It was "unusually heavy" ..and we'll see why in a minute.

This kinda disturbed me a bit. It looks like Bruce's stuff cleaned up after two back to back 13 month RTS 4w-40 OCI's. Oddly the rocker area visible through the oil cap opening is pristine. I can't quite figure out the biasing to one side either ..except that the filter is mounted horizontally. Maybe there is something to those who say that they find "silt" in the filter. This is the first time for me seeing this. Then again, I don't open too many horizontally mounted filters. One would reason that it would occur with vertically mounted filters too, it would just be at the bottom

here's a comparison of components. The ADBV's are identical.

Well, the pan won't be dropped. The pickup screen is fine if I believe my pressure gauge (it's a real one, folks) ..but I sure do agree that it looks like something I don't want there. I'll do an Auto-Rx thing after I get done with Bruceblend 0w-10

The EaO was in the same orientation ..and was on for about the same miles. The only thing (more or less) different is that the 2.5 (the one that had the M1) did the back to back long drains. It also did mostly short trips ..which could be a factor. We'll see what this round of the 0w-10 shows in a few thousand ..and I'll cut that filter up too.

Again, neither filter seemed any worse for wear on the casual level.

I'll poke the stuff and see if it's a congealed formation or if it has some grit to it.

I do want to give a "fair and balanced" presentation here

When you get the media cut out clean a small section of the filter with brake clean to remove the oil to see how much embedded dirt there is.

I had a Baldwin B43s (AC Delco PF52 equivalent) running Aeroshell 15w-50 at 3500 miles which was pitch black. Envious of the golden brown filters shown around here I decided to wash mine a bit. Had I cleaned enough my filter media would have been golden brown too. It was the black oil making it black but the filter didn't have enough particles to permanently discolor it. A more proper test would be to put the filter on a jig and run cleaner through it until the oil was gone.

Gary's a little shorter than I thought too. Looking good Gary, dont put it in your mouth you ADBV muncher you.

Amazingly Gary is younger than me and has more automotive knowledge or he is drinking something too look so young.

Gary,

Aside from the grit in the M1, did you come to any conclusions about longevity of the filters ?

My own guess is the EaO could handle it.

Yes. I agree. I can't comment on the loading factor, but nothing was out of whack. The pleats were all aligned and in place. Any distortion that you see is from my pulling it out of the can. The cutter curls the top edge of the can in a bit.

I'll try and string the media out in a day or two and look for nasties.

In my own judgment, when the media is fully 'loaded' it looks like the M1...like dipped in thin tar, shinny.

I'm not judging the M1 since there may be something else going on, but the depth of full synthetic media seems to really work.

Great pix! Thanks so much.

Your filter looks like you were doing an Auto-RX run. What is in that Bruceblend? Or is that a trade-secret? Seems it cleaned a bit of sludge out.

Well, the stuff came from somewhere. I have to assume that Bruce's oil disrupted some stuff and liberated it.

Here's the view from the oil filler. This is how it's always been

That looks pretty clean, thats not a sludge motor is it?

Makes me want to check my vans 5.3 valve cover cap, just to see what color it is, has 60k miles and has run 5w30 Pennzoil all its life. I'm guessing its pretty Yellow in there.

What is this 0w-10 oil you speak of, something home made, or experimental?

Here's the images of the media unwashed and washed with brake clean. Not much to see here

It still has that "felt/membrane" appearance.

I couldn't separate the center tube from the end caps to save my life

Thank you for your comments, Cooper (and all for that matter
