It also depends on how aggressive the cleaner is well. I'm not at all a fan of tire shine, but I've sprayed Simple Green(both the regular green and purple HD "aluminum-safe" versions) on freshly-mounted Michelins and it turned brown.

I don't know about others, but Michelin does warn explicitly against using petroleum-based tire dressings.

As I said earlier Stoners Tarminator does a great job of getting rid of the brown. I bought some Barret Jackson Tire Shine since it said on the bottle, will not turn tires brown. And it didn't, nice durable product. I think it's now on clearance though at WM.
