I just thought that since the E-core was a complete resdesign they might have also gone to a standard bypass valve design for all their filters. Please, I don't want any trouble.....

I really had no idea this was such a big deal. It's just a bypass valve, but after reading some of these posts some think it'll be the end of the world as we know.

OK, for the forum's "Search" function challenged (

), the e-core style has the bypass action integrated with the ADB flap. If you inspect an e-core filter (except those for GM engines which have the bypass function in the engine), you'll see a second inner set of holes for bypass that allows unfiltered oil to exit through the filter's large threaded hole in the event of excessive pressure or clogging of the filtration media. On paper, at least, this bit of design wizardry is both simpler and more reliable.

So I was correct then--the new E-core design eliminates the dreaded clicker bypass valve which has drawn so much criticism here. So further discussion of the clicker bypass should be a moot point since it has been designed out.

The Ecores do not have clicker valves. Unfortunately, the ST 3950 I use switched to them. They are highly criticized here, but all I have seen is ''I don't like the looks, I don't see how they work, etc.''. This is the third or fourth time I have asked for more objective opinions on them and don't expect an answer. I think it is all Champ bashing.

Labman,
You HAVE seen reasons on here why people don’t like the “clicker” bypass design, I have given MY reasons a couple of times myself. You have seen several pictures of “clicker” version Champ filters that have failed on here also. Given the number of proven alternatives available to you, you need to have a reason that you specifically want to use the Champs yourself, rather than just waiting to continue hearing the negatives again and again.
It seems to me that the people who are not “Champ/Clicker/Ecore” fans have just decided to quit beating a dead horse on here. I know I’ve gotten tired of it anyway.

Whether you want to use them or not is your choice, there are much better filters available for the same money if money is your biggest concern. If you are looking for decent quality filters for the same money you can choose from almost any other manufacturer…except Fram of course.

I'm skeptical of all the criticism as well as I've used Super Techs for about ten years now with no problems, and before that I used STP's and Lee filters which are also Champions. At least the E-core eliminates the clicker issue altogether, even if there wan't really anything wrong with it. I'm also skeptical of all the criticism the E-Core itself has attracted. As soon as my current stash of Super Techs runs out I will be buying the E-core versions.

Well actually there aren't really any alternatives for the same price ($2.07 for SuperTechs at Wal-Mart and $1.99 for Valucrafts at AutoZone)

I would estimate that Champ has made in the neighborhood of 30-40 million or more clicker valve filters by now, under various labels. Chances are i'm way low on my estimate as well...

But close with Proline by Purolator at Pep Boys starting at $2.50. Sure looks like a generic PremiumPlus. And you can get the actual PremiumPlus version at Pep Boys every month or so starting at $2.50 with coupon off the internet.

Some of the ST filters still have a by-pass built in for filters that apply to GM made products.

What may be of a concern here is the unknown time that the filter may be in by-pass mode.

On GM cars, the by-pass is built into the engine and because of this, the filter doesnt need one.

On the PF-52 version of the Super Tech filter, there is a by-pass in the filter.

This by-pass combined with the built in by-pass leads one to wonder about the amount of time that the filter/engine spends in by-pass mode.

The longer a filter spends in by-pass,the more oil that gets unfiltered, this measns oil is circulating through the engine unfiltered.

This may or may not be a problem but unfiltered oil for what may be extended times may harm an engine.

As far as comparable priced filters,if you have an Advance Auto you can get their Total Grip filters for around $2.50.There made by Purolator.

You can also get the NAPA Silver filter that seems to be made by WIX.They run about $2.60.

Lubeowner posted a few. Do a search using his name and look at some of his earliest posts. Frankly, his experience with Warner filters was so different from what I have seen here otherwise and my personal experience, that I put no more stock in it than I do the CU taxi study that vindicated Frams.

Other than Lubeowner, I don't remember any thing more on the clickers than the ''I don't like the looks of them.'', etc.

Zerando, you can quit lecturing me, I quit paying any attention to your long, subjective posts a long time ago.

While I dont know Lubeowner or anyone on the board,Labman, have you used a Warner filter?

If not,you cant say that LO didnt have the problems he mentioned.

Part of the reason I discount Lubeowner's experience is that it is the Warners I never used in my life. Warners may be trash for all I know.
