Hi

I needed to have the leaking pan gasket on my Toyota trans replaced so I sent it to the local mechanic, what a mistake. I supplied 4L of T-IV equilivent as it requires 3.9L. They tipped all that in plus another 3L of "ATF" claiming 4L was not enough. I knew that wasn't right but didn't want to make a deal about it as I had the job done for free (long story). So I checked it of course when I get home, not only were there pools of ATF all over the top of the trans but the trans was indeed well overfull. I proceeded to suck out about 3L of fluid to restore the correct level.

So my worry now, I will have a small proportion of fluid in the trans that is most likley just DXIII or at least very unlikley to be T-IV spec. Is this really a problem?

The awsner is somewhat unlcear some say its a long drain DEXII , others say its something diffrent.

I used DEXIII in my corotolla which calls for T-IV. The shifting was not good , after replacing fluid things got alot better.

I dont recomend it, use T-IV

My best guess is there is about 20-25% non T-IV fluid in the Trans currently. The problem is I can't easily replace all that fluid. So the question is; what proportion is OK? A drain and fill will reduce it by about half, so 10-13% will still remain. I can't see that proportion as poison; surely it’s just a slight dilution.

Having used both I can tell you they are nothing alike. The T-IV is highly friction modified, much thinner. Lasts much longer. What I would do is get some lubegard Platinum or black to blend the 2 together. Drain enough to make room for this product, leave the rest. Drain and fill your own transmission for now on once a year. There's a bolt under there so its easy to do.
