I had factory ZF ATF in my Fit, did 1 drain and fill after 10,000 kms was fair amount of fine black iron on magnetic drain plug.

After another 15,000kms did my second drain and fill of DW-1 and there was barely any fine iron on the drain plug.

I was doing extremely heavy city driving, so use DW-1 with confidence, it doesn't seem that the smooth shifts wear anything out faster, I couldn't be happier.

Now most of my ATF is switched over to DW-1, all ready for the Winter.

Of course there were more filings/metal dust when newer and breaking in.
Do you really think this ws a valid test for the ATF type?

If u really want to see how good your trans shifts, try a drain and fill with maxlife atf. Z1 and Dw-1 shear at hightemps. With maxlife in my trans , it almost completely took care of the hunting between the gears. Lowered it by about 90% or so. Now it just locks into gear and goes. Talk to hokiefyd , he has done a lot of research on Honda atf.

I guess you mean you drained Z-1. As maligned as Z-1 was, I ran it exclusively to ~160k in a Civic with no issues on ~25k single d&f's.

But with the change to DW-1, I've gone to ML in that vehicle and next d&f in 3.0L Accord will be also be changing.

Glad your happy with DW-1. I'm happy to be going with well respected (here) readily available ML, and not get bent over by the dealer any more on Honda ATF.

How would Amsoil universal atf work in hondas transmissions? Im currently using dw1 but ive got a stock pile of Amsoil that i would like to use up.

^^^^Many here have reported excellent results using Amsoil Universal ATF in Honda AT's.

My next change I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I know about break-in... Didn't trust DW-1 for my application. A lot of city driving and the shifts are fairly soft.

Just nice to see that my trans isn't shedding friction material quickly. I was pondering Valvoline ATF for firmer shifts because of this.

Just wanted to give a positive review... was expecting more iron on the drain plug but DW-1 is doing it's job.

After my second fill of DW-1, shifts are snappier than with 50 / 50 DW-1 / Z-1.

I checked my transmission fluid often in the past, and when I checked it this morning cold just to verify the level that it didn't all drain out from the drain plug or leak (I am always extra vigilant after oil and transmission changes to be sure everything is leak free), I noticed that it is super cherry colored, way more than usual.

I am just mentioning this because I am surprised, all my fluid only had max 23,000 km on it, and I had one DW-1 drain and fill in the past. I think they are way too generous on how long they say the ATF fluid should be in service.

Based on this I plan on doing a 2.5L drain and fill every 30,000 kms max. It is easier than changing the oil, and it only costs max. 25$. Cheap insurance as they say, and I'll never have black fluid than I couldn't change for fear of leaks, it'll always be fresh.
