Duralube good, or bad?

it does really well in that timken test.

I'm pretty sure that's a fact.

I'm also pretty sure a timken test is applicable to relative movement of contacting metal to metal surfaces and is really applicable to greases and gear oils.

Now, I'm not an expert. But

1. I wouldn't put grease in my engine.
2. I wouldn't put duralube in it either.

Opinion....I'd say the volume of Amsoil XL in my RX8 engine displaced by duralube would've done a better job in protecting my engine.

the link below is old, they may've changed the stuff, i've not read it.

I opened that link and wow. that says alot already. Thank you for the info

Try Head&shoulders anti dandruff schampoo. It will also do well in the timken test. In an engine. Duuuh

Am I reading this wrong or are you actually saying that if you replaced XL with Duralube you would have been better off?

Duralube = not needed = bad

hmm, yes, you are reading it wrong I think.

How bout this, I'd sooner relieve myself into my crankcase than use that stuff, lol.

Just so all of you know i have no aspirations of using the stuff. I just want info on the product. thanx 4 your responses

I think it is some zink stuff in it. Difficult to find a best use for it. A typical TV-shop product. For this thing, don't bother too much.

Really?

OK if the oil said to be has polar compound anti friction add, and pass the timken machine flawlessly like Duralube Commercial, Does it have chlorinated parrafin?

How to detect it has chlorinated parrafin? mass spectrograph will do?

Timken test is flawed for it does not put temperature into consideration.

Also: it can be easily manipulated to the infomercial (product seller's) advantage, citing a non-laboratory controlled, research quality test results.

Funny that no major car manufacturers and engineering body (SAE), which literally spent millions of dollars in engine lubrication and design research, would publicaly endorse the use of such product.

So, should you care about the product in your car? Well, it's your money, it's your car(engine) and ultimately, it's your call.

Q.

I used to be curious about every oil supplement that came out. Today I would not add anything to my oil other than Auto-RX or perhaps Lubegard. I think 99% of all of these mysterious oil supplements and friction reducers etc. are just garbage.

I remember this Indy car racer who one year was advertising how he supposedly used one oil supplement in his race car engine. It was not long after that he was advertising some other product. There are guys in racing that will agree to advertise anything to help fund their racing programs.

Now there are a few products that might be useful in a racing engine. But on the other hand the racing oil should be able to provide adequate protection. And what is good in a racing engine is not necessarily good in an everyday engine.
