Duralast “New” Alternators - built by Remy?

Rock Auto has gotten me twice now with 'stock' pics of what I want and recieve something else. LUK slave with Aisen pic- chinese, Honda/Schaeffler throwout bearing with Nachi pic- Indian.

Got me too. I ordered ball joints specifically because it was a smooth body design and exactly the same as oem (same TRW joint sold under TRW, Spicer and Centric premium). Pics were the same not only on Rockauto but EVERYWHERE. I was not happy when I got a set of knurled body ball joints (you can't go back to smooth once you use them). Manufacturer changed the design but that should be indicated in the picture/description as it is a very important detail (like use or not use) but I didn't have the time to wait for a 3rd set (see below).
Funny thing is I had ordered another reputable brand of smooth body ball joints from them and both were defective. One was loose new freely moving by hand and the other ones threads were
botched and the nut would hang up. That was the only debacle out of about 30 orders though.

It wasn't one fell swoop....It all started with Detroit Diesel & ended with Allison & EMD with everything else in the middle.

ACDelco (No space or hyphen) was launched '94/'95.
My 13 Silverado had a Remy alternator as OEM. I think one of GM’s biggest divestitures was Delphi. I was sad to see that go. Everything from steering to electronics.

I generally- order way ahead of planned maintenance or to have on the shelf. Either way- once here in Canada- it's usaully not worth shipping back for ANY issue. I've found lately some venders may ship out a replacement without requiring the old part shipped back.

I agree. I mean Dorman can come in really handy because they make a lot of parts and they’re available everywhere if you need it fast. But for mainstream applications with good parts availability I wouldn’t want anything Dorman.

I’d be pretty irritated if I spent big bucks on Motorcraft, ACDelco, etc to open it and find a Dorman part. I’m sure Standard, Denso, etc aren’t perfect but at least those companies are capable of making quality items if you ask them to! Dorman, IDK… just looking at or handling most of their stuff you get the sense it’s poorly made. Sure, there are exceptions, but that isn’t the norm.
Nissan does the same with their "Value" line. A $350 distributor is just a reboxed $95 Wai special. In their defense, this was for older Xterras with engines that have not been made for years.

I believe it was @14Accent who clued me in on this.

Saw this posted on a FB group for diesel people. The 03/04 round EGR cooler for a 6.0L. They didn't even bother to take the Dorman tag off the part before boxing it up as a Ford part. Its literally been 2-3 years since I have sold one. I usually steer people to Bullet Proof for EGR coolers since that is a nice upgrade for not much more money.

If I were Ford I'd just delete every reference of the 6.0 from my system. "Don't know what you're talking about. That never happened. We have no record of a 6.0-anything." :D

WAI is also a big distributor, no pun intended of Chinesium rotating electrical and parts to rebuild those. I remember taking apart a Delco reman Denso alt only to find WAI CHINA on the bearings and VRM.

Private equity owns Delphi Technologies and Remy now. Aptiv is the sole survivor of the former GM ACDelco/Delco-Remy/Delco Electronics/Packard Cable divisions.

I've put Wai starters on Polaris Rangers where OEM was $400 and Wai was $40. The first one (Wai) died a very early death and the replacement is going on ~6+ years (shrug).

I'm all for OEM but $400 for a SxS starter is just beyond stupid.
