Dunkin Donuts Coffee Price is Outrageous

McD coffee used to be terrible a while back. Now it's slightly better IMO, but still nothing to write home about. DD isn't much better either. If I had to pay $2 for DD, I'd much rather spend another dollar and get a latte from Starbucks, alas, we all have different tastes and different price tolerance. I usually get my caffeine boost at home - tastes better than Starbucks and costs less, too.

The bath water mcDonalds sells as a coffee costs $1.00 + tax. I would much rather pay $4.00 for a normal coffee than $1.00 for garbage.

When was the last time you had it? I thought the same thing until a couple of years ago when I noticed they'd upped their game. One gripe I still have with McD's is their lids. They've copied Coor's wide-mout design, which means it's really tough to sip the coffee until it's cool down for a while. By that time, you've got maybe 20 minutes in the cold before it's too cool. I always take my own mug if I need a quick fix and the nearest, most convenient place is McD's.

My preference, in order based on what's available:

1. My own brew
2. Local coffee shop with a good selection of roasts
3. Starbucks
4. Cumbies
5. Any other quick mart with Green Mountain or equivalent
6. McDonalds
7. Dunkin

Sometimes, like when I need to be on the road for a decently long trip early in the morning, Dunkin is all that's available, and usally the only option that'd be open so early. I try to resist, but my body isn't always as discerning when it comes to caffeine intake, and sadly, DD still satisfies that craving for the wake-p juice!

A few years back I had a good McDonalds coffee at the Hartford airport - it was Newman's own organic. I was impressed that they had decided to compete with better coffee sellers.

So a few months back I purchased a cup again and it was terrible. So they probably went back to their slurry.

That's the one, Newman's Own! I don't drink McDonald's coffee often, so I couldn't tell you whether this is what every McDonald's offers, but it's what I've noticed the few times I've had it in the past year. MUCH better than Dunkin.

I'm with Quattro Pete with respect to home brews. I didn't cave and buy my own grinder and press until early last year. Throw in some good beans and a little sweetened condensed milk and nothing else compares; it's out of this world good!

1. [heck] YEAH!
2. Yep!
3. Not all Starbucks and their barristas are created equal.

5. I've been suprised before
6. The ringworm neither wears rings nor is it a worm. It's a fungus. The McDonalds Latte' is not a latte'. It's a fungus.
7. I'll just take the quik mart coffee.

Maccas coffee downunder is pretty OK to me

But over the last 15 years, it's devolved into what a 15 year old thinks is "coffee", some overmilked, semi luke warm junk.

I buy black, and add UHT milk...and if I'm the driver on a trip, and remember to tell them, I get it free with the meal, making it acceptable value for money.

Their McCafe is the usual 1500Kj of warm milk with coffee additive

Yeah no kidding! DD now charges more for a med than they use to charge for a large 2 years ago. The thing that gets me is $2.01, what do these morons think, i'm going to give $3 and say keep the change at the drive up?

This is one company that deserves to go out of business, and the sooner the better.

You mean that, since their cost of goods has increased, and their overhead has increased, they raised their prices in order to maintain a profit and stay in business?

Those scoundrels! There should be a congressional investigation to get to the bottom of this issue.

It's a private equity owned organization. I have worked for a company that got bought by one of the PE owners -- the Carlyle Group. Believe me, they will do everything possible to squeeze the last penny out of their customers, the employees and everyone else possible. Talk about plunging employee morale and loss of talent. If they did the same to DD, it is no wonder their products are [insert favorite censored word].

I started roasting my own about 2005. Since then the cost I pay for green (raw) beans has doubled. I used to be able to get a pound of coffee for $3.00. Now it's hard to find anything less than $7.00/#. Also minimum wages have gone up %50 or more in the last ten years. It's hard to hold on to your price point when the cost of two major inputs climbs quickly.

The price of coffee has increased since 2005: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/commodity/coffee

I remember in the late 90-s and early 2000-s the farmers who grew coffee received less for their crop than it cost them to produce. Fortunately, nowadays they are able to survive even if they still remain in deep poverty as we drink $3 cups of coffee.

So look for fair trade beans if you care for sustainable and fair business practices for the growers.

Coffee is a drug for those who use it. People who get used to their drug don't like any other. The people I see going into DD are religious about DD and won't drink anything else because it's their drug.

It's quite simple when you come down to it.

I guess you missed the rest of the conversation. I appreciate the sarcasm, though. ;-)

and what an awesome drug it is.

It's legal, widely availiable, if I consume too much I just get jittery and have to go to the bathroom a lot, you can drink it and drive, and if a cop catches you with a kilo of the finest Columbian coffee nothing happens. Try that with any other Columbian export.

I have not been to DD in over 7 years. Where I moved there is no DD in the state that I am aware of. I recall their coffee being quite good, especially early in the AM when it is first brewed.

Starbucks is nasty and burnt.

We have a chain here called Dutch Brothers, which is OK.

I rarely spend money on coffee like I used to. Adds up too fast and I would just as soon brew my own, which has become expensive as well.

I think a kilo of the finest Columbian coffee has almost caught up with the price of a Kilo from the Medellin cartel back in the day.

For a quick cup of coffee.....at a reasonable price....without making a detour....go to the best place......

MacDonalds! Usually, only a dollar a cup.....no matter what size you get.

DD coffee is VERY location-dependent. there is one on Memorial Parkway in Phillipsburg, NJ that is widely known as having the best of all the DD's.
IDK if it's the water, or maybe they clean their pots more often (or less!)
I can't stand McD's coffee. they made a big deal over changing it a few yrs ago, but to me it's still too watery and TOO HOT!
here in PA, though, most people go to Wawa. they have lots of different blends. I prefer the dark roast.
AND, back on topic, take-out coffee HAS gotten too expensive. I'd rather brew my own.

I am not a coffee snob, like my mount and groan brewed at home, but I was turned onto Douwe Egbert and that is my special time brew. It is actually used in some fine establishments but I buy the bags online. My last cup on earth would be Douwe's.

I personally love the way DD coffee tastes, but after paying $1.65 at DD (give or take a few pennies) for a SMALL coffee the other day, I'll just make my own or go to McDonald's. Heck, $1.65 for a small, ahem, tall coffee is Starbuck's pricing territory.

It costs me less than 30 cents for a home made double shot espresso or cappuccino. I don't see any reason to drive anywhere to pay more than 50 cents for a lousy cup of coffee.
