ford is the best selling truck in 28 years, and still is number one!!!i think credit is due to ford...

I am going to search Autonews, but my take on "best selling truck" was that it was marketing hyperbole. GM can't say they sell as many as the f150 because they make GMC, Chevy, and Caddy versions of their truck. I think if you summed them up they came close if not exceeded the F150 more than a few times in the last 28 years.

If people have trucks and never use them....why not drive something that gets better MPG??? I see here where the TOY gets the ULVE....but a truck that earns this still polutes more than something that get more MPG but doesn't earn this rating. Its burning more fuel. As far as full size MPG is concerned....check this out: Gov. MPG As you see for yourself Chevy 5.3 is 16 city 22 hwy...Toy 5.7 si 16 city 20 hwy. Toy 4.7 is 15 city 18 hwy...this smaller engine is aweful...and Toy with some magazines bragged on how advanced it was....well if advanced means very low MPG in its class...then thats bunk. I admit the new Toy 5.7 is a lot better. Even Toy V-6 is is not as good as chevy at 17 city 20 HWY. The Chevy V-6 is 17/21. And to think that Chevy is doing that with 4 speed autos vs. Toys 6 speed auto. So will the Chevy even widen the gap when it switches to 6 speeds??

I think you're overplaying the significance of the fuel economy difference. Here are the EPA numbers on the '07s:

EPA ratings (2WD models):
Tundra 4.0L 17/20
Tundra 4.7L 15/18
Tundra 5.7L 16/20
Silverado 4.3L 17/21
Silverado 4.8L 16/20
Silverado 5.3L 16/22 (16/21 for E85 model running on regular gasoline)
Silverado 6.0L 15/19

They're all pretty good for the size of the trucks. The Toyota 4.7L is the worst of the bunch overall, but the Chevy 6.0L is worse than the Toyota 5.7L in city or highway and the Chevy 4.8L does the same as the Toyota 5.7L.

mokanic, i think it is the other way around..if it wasn't for ford trucks, chevy and dodge then tundra would have never existed...i wouldn't put tundra in the class of ford trucks...just another toy..

Personally, I think you want to drive one so bad you can't stand it! Nobody here that enjoys facts will think any less of you for admitting it. Go drive you one of those Texas made Tundras and then come back and comment. At least then I would have to salute you for knowing what you are talking about. No danger of that happening now. Have a nice day and yee-haw!

454,
this is a half ton truck and is rated for that. When Toyota has 3/4 and 1 tons on the market those will be valid questions.
The new 5.7 v-8 engine utilizes a timing Chain btw.

i just saw a cut-a-way of that 5.7 Toyota engine, and that sure did look like a timing BELT. Are you sure it is a metal chain? If it is a belt, is it an interference engine?

I wonder if the 4.0 v6 is a chain or belt.
My son is looking at buying one.

^^^ FWIW we use Tundras at work as well as Chevy W/T's and the W/T is better in every way. Better gas mileage in real usage, more room in the bed, more interior room. Chevy parts are in general 2-5X cheaper than import parts, plus more available. Toyota has more recalls than Chevy. In addition, you can get a Silverado Classic for less $$$. To me, it's a no-brainer. GM has a 5 year 100K mile warranty for 2007.

I met one of the new Tundras yesterday and I thought it sure looked familiar. Then it hit me:

Saw an ad for the new tundra in the paper yesterday 4x2 reg cab v6 and they wanted 22,600 for it. I paid 17,900 for my 06 3/4ton 4x4 5.4 v8 8ft bed f-250 superduty. I cant beleive any one would be stupid enough to pay that for a 2wd 6cyl toy. I would like to see that thing with a 9 foot fisher plow on the front ha ha ha the IFS would be folded right up into the wheel wells.

The 1GR FE(4.0 aluminum V-6) has a Timing CHAIN. Variable valve timing, Piston oil jets and if the Tow package is chosen an Oil to coolant exchanger. Other goodies include accoustic variable length intake manifold the ability to run on 87-93 octane(although I only see the need to run 87).

I have two of these engines. If you want to know more about the 1GR-FE Go to this PDF and go to page 25 and read down.

You are comparing what they WANTED for one versus the price that you negotiated for on the other. How much did they WANT for the SuperDuty?

I have no doubt that the actual selling price of the 4x2 reg cab v6 Tundra is MUCH less than the advertised price. That price isn't too far from what I paid for my '06 4x4 4.7L DoubleCab Tundra just four months ago.

You should compare apples to apples.

When they have the specials here they advertise lowest possible price. Did not look but usually they include a 3 or 4000 trade also to make it look lower. Usually they have one or none on the lot at that price and try to sell you something more xpensive. I bought my superduty at the advertised price. They did not want to sell me that truck but a more expensive one. I also did not qualify for the $1000 commercial rebate but they made that up in some kind of dealer cash deal. Have a freind who picked up a new slverado 2wd shortbed reg cab for 14 and change. Put a set of Afr heads and a mid sized cam and is making over 450 rwhp befor he hits the 100 shot of n20. Now that is a fun 2wd pu for under 18k.

Are you serious? I have a hard time believing that you paid $17,900 for a new 2006 F250 4X4 and V8 engine. That's almost $10,000 less than they are asking for a new one now according to the pricing at Edmunds.com.

I'm not calling you out, but in my mind I had always perceived that a 3/4 ton 4x4 truck would be at least in the $30,000 range.

I will definitely be looking into this when buying a new vehicle. There is no way I could justify spending close to $20,000 on something like a Honda Civic when I could get an F250 4x4 for thousands less, assuming of course that I could justify the need for it.
