Droid 2 Global Phone on T-Mobile

I have been trying to get this to work with no luck. I brought it to the T-Mobile store and they could not get it to work. I did the SIM unlock. After doing some reading on the net, it seems like it will only work on GSM overseas, not on GSM networks in the USA. Unless I do a broadband unlock also. But that is a very detailed set of instructions I need to follow. Are there any alternatives?
 
What do you mean by "I did the SIM unlock"?

I'm thinking the unlocking would need to be done by Verizon (if it was originally a Verizon phone). Alternatively, the phone would need to be rooted.

Verizon gave me the SIM unlock code and I entered that and am past that issue.
 
This is Verizon CDMA phone? Then it's true the sim only works on overseas frequencies.
Years back I had one of their blackberries. They unlocked the sim for overseas travel. But in the US it only worked on CDMA like Verizon or you could put it on Page Plus.

That seems a bit involved. While I consider myself a techie and have worked on large computers since 1976, I have never needed to go a root a smartphone.
 
Well I took the first step and flashed 2.4.29 as per the instructions. Now after rebooting, it goes onto Bootloader. Can not get it to do anything else.

I was trying to follow another set of directions on rootzwiki then found these.

I did the first two steps there and can now boot Android.

But I am not sure how to:

1) reboot to recovery
2) restore root.

If you flashed a rooted ROM, you can just open a terminal, type SU and then type "reboot recovery" in the command prompt and it will boot into CWM Recovery.

If it isn't rooted, then you'll need to use the key combination (on my phone it is volume + and the home key) to get it to boot into recovery. You do this on the boot screen.

Thanks. I can see my Droid 2 Global is now a "project phone".
