"In the United Kingdom there is a racing series called the Mini Challenge, where the race engines run direct injection. After a rash of engine failures at races, the series organizers sought out a solution.

After identifying the increased chance of low-speed pre-ignition in direct-injection applications, Driven Racing Oils developed is line of DI oils. They are available in 0-W20, 5-W30, 0-W40, and 10-W60. (Photo Credit: Driven Racing Oil)

"Once the series organizers and engine builder became aware that failures were due to LSPI, the series fuel supplier, Sunoco recommended contacting Driven Racing Oil," Lake Speed Jr., Lubrication Specialist at Driven Racing Oil, said. "That call resulted in a change to Driven's XP9 Racing Oil that contained only 250 ppm of Calcium detergent compared to the previous oil with more than 2,500 ppm of Calcium. Just changing the Calcium level eliminated the LSPI related engine failures."

"The used-oil analysis report revealed higher levels of wear with the factory fill oil than the Driven products," Lake said. "This confirmed the fact that the mainstream motor oils were not designed specifically for direct-injection engines. When a lower-calcium-level oil was used, the engine performance and protection increased."

ARE THEY SERIOUS????

Didn't bother reading. What works well in racing doesn't necessarily translate to a street vehicle. Apples to oranges

I thought we'd get a kick out this.

And from everything i've read, LSPI happens under low speed high load, not high RPM (racing) situations.

I still believe that LSPI occurs in situations where the engine is lugged. It's not obvious in today's engines with all the knock sensors and such but reading the many occurrences of LSPI on the Subaru boards, I noticed how many happened in situations where lugging May have played a part.

They are a little late to the party. Mobil1 did low-Ca synthetics 5 years ago, dexos1 Gen2 LSPI tests were devised 4 years ago, Subaru issued an LSPI recall 2 years ago, Amsoil woke up to it 1 year ago, SN+ came out a year ago, & Ford starting endorsing SN+ (LSPI resistant) oils this year. There has been a lot of racing going on the last few years with high compression, DI, turbo engines, so why just now? -- http://www.engineprofessional.com/EPQ2-2018/files/basic-html/page44.html

I've got a great idea. Let's make a machine that uses 0 and 1 for off and on, a binary system, where these machines could talk to each other. Think it would fly?

This is why I use and have always defended Mobil 1. They didn't even mention that they were 7 years ahead until the others thought they were coming out with something state of the art last week.

I think Castrol was ahead too.

Driven to tears is more like it...

I don't think I've ever seen anything done by Driven Racing Oil that wasn't scientifically questionable, and that used murky language to cloud the issue at hand for normal people who don't get into oil like this board does...

they ALL want our $$$$ + try to sway us anyway they can, no matter what they sell honestly or not. its harder than ever to sort out the bull poop as big $$$ manufacturers are rarely questioned no matter what they say!!!
