I was parked at a Wal-Mart waiting for my wife to finish her shopping. Just in front and one spot over, a twenty-something young lady was trying to get the oil cap off of her engine to add oil. She was driving some type of Mercedes suv. I helped her remove the cap, quickly noticing a good amount of sludge built up on the cap. She added a little oil (about a cup). She stated that she wasn't sure how much she needed to add. I checked the oil and added until we had used a half quart of oil. She was using Mobil OW-30. She stated that she "needed an oil change". I asked her how many miles she had on the vehicle. She stated that she had about 205K. I told her about Auto-Rx and recommended it based on the apparent presence of sludge. I told her what it was and what it did. She responded "Oh, like Draino, but for cars, huh?".
Well, yeah I guess its something like that. As she drove off, I noticed that she was from Washington. A long way from home. She probably just drives the car and doesn't have a clue about mainenance. Very sad!
