My diesels make oil "opaque" in the sun. My gas cars make the oil varying levels of "translucent".
I have HPL Supercar in my X3 right now. It went in about as dark as Log Cabin or Aunt Jemima syrup. After 1k miles, it is about the color of Dark Karo syrup, but not dark as Molasses. It is dissolving 135k miles of Castrol red lacquer buildup, but I'm not worried that it's spent just because it's getting dark at 1k miles.
