Hi,

Ive been running Redline SI-1 in my 135i, since the cleaners supposedly survive combustion to some extent. I only dose a few ounces, a maintenance dose. Im running new bottle SI-1, so I have two gripes.

First gripe - the old SI-1 bottles had markings on the label which aligned to 10-gallon doses. This was excellent. No longer, so I have to eyeball it, and go lighter to be OK.

But my real gripe and reason for post, is that the bottle for redline (and this is the case since the old bottle, and other products have a similar issue) develops a drip on it when pouring a dose. This means that I need to clean it to prevent the product from creeping all along the exterior of the bottle, but even cleaning gets it on my fingers in a detectable way. I like to keep the stuff in my trunk, but this really requires a tightly sealing bottle.

What do you use to store and cleanly/safely dose your fuel adds? Have you noticed any issues using HDPE #2 for fuel adds that come in other types of plastic bottles?

I generally like the bottles that have a flip-top so that they can be easily closed and kept clean. Id imagine they are perhaps not as tight to vapors though so Im looking for ideas...

I use a Lucas UCL single dose bottle that has a removable green screw on cap. It also has a long neck which is perfect for gas tanks.

I have the same complaint, with the RL bottles. You could try pouring the RL into a new MMO bottle. They seal pretty well, and at least in my applications fit the gas tank well. I carry a paper towel with me and wipe off the neck of the bottle before I screw the cap back on.

The can that the Lubro Moly people put their fuel system cleaners in works well it has a long plastic funnel that comes with it. The bottle holds about 7 ounces of liquid. I prefill that put the funnel on it. It fits into the fill neck of the gas tank perfectly. I stick it in the tank before I prepay for gas, pay the guy then pump the gas. That has been working well for me.

The new Gum Out bottles look good too, for up to about a 6 ounce dose.

Like many old folks I have many perscription bottles available. I use a small bottle for 1/2 tank fills and a larger bottle for empty tank fill-ups. I use one of the plastic shoe boxes available at Dollar General for a buck to store these in and have a chunk of 2" stryrofoam with holes drilled in it so the bottles do not fall on their side. This along with a small package of handi wipes solves the problems.

Nothing like being tidy. lol

Very well thought out!

I found an empty Gumout Fuel Injector Cleaner bottle in a trash can at AAP. I add 6 ounces of MMO to my gas every time I fill up. I just measured out 6 ounces of MMO into the bottle and made a mark with a Sharpie around the neck of the bottle. The long neck and smaller bottle end makes it super easy to add the dose to my tank. It's also a lot easier to pour the MMO into the Gumout bottle, I just pour it in with a funnel till the level hits the 6 ounce mark.

I used to have to measure MMO into a pint MMO bottle with a funnel and the carry the funnel and MMO to the gas station in a heavy zippered plastic bag. All of which was a royal pain and messy too. Now I just refill my Gumout bottle after I fill up and put it back in my truck to use on my next fill-up. It fits nicely in the map pocket on my door, and I save the new smaller caps from the quart MMO bottles because they fit the Gumout bottle too. If I ever have a problem with a leaky cap, I can just use a new one. I have had no problems with the plastic bottle itself, but if I ever do, I have an empty new-style Regane bottle too.

There's really no *need* to keep this stuff in your car..just bring with you at fill up in a small box. Having said this...I now keep (1)the MMO in a plastic marked bottle along with (2)Redline in the original bottle (in a plastic bag)...(3)a small funnel..and(4) a small measuring cup (for Redline)...all in a small box which fits nicely in the cargo/ mesh net that fits snuggly against the back of my trunk. I do find that I have to *wipe of* some stuff from funnel/bottle with towels provided at gas station...no biggie.

I use the little travel size bottles you can get on the shampoo/soap isle at the supermarket. They are the small one that you can take on airplains. i just use a felt pen to mark lines on the outside in 1 ounce increments. I also have a box of rubber gloves in the trunk for when I need to gas up on special occasion days when I dont want the smell of fuel on my hands. They also come in handy incase you pull up on a car accident and need to assist, or when you go fishing and dont want the smell of bait on you.

Fill up on my E30 and Nissan are around monthly events, and don't take me by surprise.

Drop the appropriate fuel add, and a dose of 2 stroke into the add bottle the night before fill up, drive to work/Sydney whichever, and fill up with add on the way home.

If there's multiple fills in a trip, like on holidays, I put all the adds in the bottle, then divvy it up per fuel stop, give or take.

Gives minimum contact.

+1

Get the 32 oz bottle (I think that's the size), it can be refilled easily and measures out nicely.

minimum contact is key. I use different adds at different times. Typically I use the plastic coffee containers to keep stuff in as it creates a decent sean and they are compact and of a useful size at the same time. The two issues I have are that the redline bottle is taller than the coffee containers, and it is a different type of plastic. If I can just put the SI-1 into an HDPE bottle then all is well, but Im not keen on finding out the hard way if others have had experience.

At the same time, the flip top bottles are very clean. I get my gas pumped for me (living in NJ), so I'd like to minimize contact with residues. At the same time, gloves an towels all over the place is a mess and a pain too. This is why I like the flip-top, they are so clean... drops are self contained and cannot go anywhere.

Its 1qt. and marked 4oz,8oz,12oz ect. 100ml,200ml ect. 1/2 pint, 1 pint ect. Just make sure it closed before you pour, I spilled MMO all at the gas station the other day.

yeah It has caps on both ends, not sure if it leak proof. Its just easy to pour what I need to the measuresments then open the spout and it go's right in. And it was cheap.

But then I have two items soiled with fuel adds, releasing vapors all over the place... And I still need to clean the cap of the bottle...
