Here's my predicament. We lock all the exterior doors at our church at 11:00 as the Greeters leave to join the service. We lock all the outside doors to protect those in the sanctuary and the children in the classrooms. About 1 or twice a year we have guests that arrive late and the doors are locked and they end up leaving.

What kind of "alarm" system can we install to notify someone inside to go and open the doors for them? A flip phone, silent buzzer that will ring the people in the sound booth, etc? It can't be loud as it would disrupt service but it has to be able to notify someone inside.

We aren't a large church so this has to be an economical solution.

Remember, this only happens once or twice a year. Our regulars know to contact someone inside by cell phone.

AWESOME!

How about a quaint looking exterior phone, hooked up to a magicjack or similar VOIP thing. Put it on a timer so it only works the hours you want, and put a preset in it for the cell phone of the greeter who'd be coming down.

This would look cool

If your preacher keeps office hours during the weekday it could be set to ring him as well.

Motion cameras are pretty cheap now. Essentially it would alert a tv monitor or buzzer. Maybe now it could alert a cellphone.

Late worshipers won't fail. Their walk towards the Light will only be delayed.

Motion sensors that set-off someone's cellphone Vibration Mode during Services is good. The Animal Kingdom nearby could trigger a false signal thou.

I see a lot of great suggestions. One possible issue I see is, that without signage people will hesitate to push a doorbell button thinking it will disrupt services.
