Where is the door sensor in these things? 2003 Ford Ranger 4.0 auto, club cab. It will go on over a bump or turn then go off over the next bump or turn. Maybe it sticks on maybe it sticks off depending on what mood its in. I tried blowing out and WD and graphite lube on the lower door hinge and every door moving part where the pad looking deal is. It doesn't have the plunger type gadgets that is typical on other car doors. Thanks

I would say that the whole latch would have to be replaced.Never had any luck trying to clean them up.Its a poor design.Poor.

Depending on model it could be a separate switch. the switch will still be included in the latch assembly.

See if the dealer lists the "door ajar" switch as a separate unit. I replaced many on Ford cars. It is usually a small plunger switch that twists out (bayonette mount). remove door panel, access awitch, no need to pull out the latch, twist/break out the switch and replace with new.

You will need to take the interior door panel off...remove 3-6 screws depending on trim level, then lift up on the panel. There is a T-25 or T-20 torx screw that holds the window crank in place if equipped - just pop off the plastic cover to get to it. There are 3 torx screws that hold the latch assembly to the door.

On a 2003 the door ajar switch is integral to the latch. They are not sold separately. If you want a quick free fix, just unplug the wiring harness that goes to the switch. It will disable the door ajar light on that side, BUT the dome light will not come on when you open that door.

WD40 almost always does the trick for these though. Give the latch a leavy dose and slam the door a few times. That almost always frees the switch up.

mine did this as well on a 2002 xlt 4x4
Esp in winter.. usually one slam fixed it for awhile.
eventually I had it warrantied.
