Dog wont share

We currently have a chihuahua , but a large one,,best watch dog ever,,,when I cannot here the door bell, he does and I hear him barking at the front door,,,no he does not attack,,,does not eat much,,,5 lbs of food last a month or more,,,lol

Cute dogs, but aren’t chihuahuas a very 1 person dog? I wouldn’t mind having one honestly, but the wife says no.

Our dog is not a one person dog,,if you rub his tummy your a friend for life,,,likes walks where he can play in the near by woods,,,yes a small rabbit could hurt him, but the dog is fast for 4 inch legs,,,I cannot over emphasize his amazing hearing and watchdog abilities,,,my poor hearing appreciates him barking even if its sometimes a nusance ..

We picked up a “deer legged” chihuahua from a shelter about nine months ago. He’s a good watch dog, but eventually warms up to anybody giving him attention. One advantage of owning a chihuahua is that you won’t spend much on dog food.

I've always thought they were cute, but I've seen an awful lot of rogue chihuahuas on Dog Whisperer. Likely enabling owners though.

I never understood the appeal to small dogs until we finally ended up with one (a pug). Wonderful! Never want anything else save for perhaps my dream German Shephard the wife is never going to let me get.

As an in home service tech I have been in contact with a thousand or more dogs. The small ones are the ones you have to be wary of. Lots of nasty ones. I have been bitten by small ones but never a large one. I don't know what it is about them. I had a dachsund and he was a force to be reckoned with. I have had three German Shepherds and trained in good manners they are excellent dogs. Not trying to knock small ones, just speaking from years of experience.

Yep, beware of the ankle bitters! In my previous life I had to knock on a lot of doors so had run ins with a lot of dogs. I had a stare down with a Doberman on a front porch once that scared me pretty bad but the only time I got bit was by a little rat terrier that bit me on the back of my ankle the second I turned my back on him.

I had a little yorkie type dog. Was my wife's before I met her and wasn't socialized well. The dog bit everyone in the family but luckily couldn't do much damage. Very vicious at times but very cute and lovable at other times. Tons of personality. Would lay her life down in a second to protect my wife. The rest of the family was on their own. If a stranger came in the house like a service tech, she'd demand attention want to be petted. Then after a few minutes where she'd lull you into thinking you were her friend, she'd turn and bite the person. After doing this twice, we had to keep her away from people that wanted to say hello to the little 8 pound dog. She hated other dogs and once tried to attack a German Shepherd at Pet Smart during an attempt to help socialize her. An attempt at socializing later in life didn't go well when my wife took the dog to the DunkinDonuts drive through. The dog did not like other cars near my wife's and barked at the cars to move away but that was nothing compared to when the drive-through woman put her arm into the car to hand my wife her coffee. The dog flipped out thinking some harm was coming to her master. The dog was extremely agitated and took her a couple hours to calm down at home.

Never met a chihuahua that wasn't a neurotic little chicken. My sister in law has a chihuahua/dachshund mix that combines the the worst tendencies of both breeds. His only saving grace is that once he decides you're an OK person, he won't bite, but watch out until then.

Never really cared for small dogs at first either.

We are wanting another pug and GSD, but we’ll see. Maddie the pug is 13 and came with my wife when I married her. We just bought Mando back in November. Velociraptor intelligence. Knows how to open doors etc. House trained relatively fast.

Good to hear. We met some teacup chihuahuas that were very friendly. Wouldn’t mind having one of those.

My mother in law has a Pekingese. You want to talk about a 1 person dog. He’s bit everyone in the family.

I have the same story with my Charlie and Dazy. They eat too much, now I try a low sodium diet for these two. The first week has already passed and seems my friends feel great.

We had 2 females born a year apart and died a year apart at 15. We were devastated. They were incredibly smart.
