Yes, this is a dumb project. Yes, it's more work than it's worth. Yes, yes yes. I hear you. I'm doing it anyways.
So I recently inherited a dog and she is SUPER hyper. Wants to play ALL day. So I had this crazy idea to create a pulley system across the room that would allow me to attach a toy and just pull the ends of the rope to pull the toy back and forth, so I can focus on the game and get the dog the exercise it wants.
I've mounted the pulleys and ran the string, but it doesn't work. The rope won't stay taut and against the ceiling. I need a way to keep the string taut but be able to pull the ropes and move the toy back and forth across the room. I majored in healthcare in college, not mechanical engineering, so help!
Here are a few pictures:

1 pulley in the kitchen, another in the living room, from the living room pulley I've run each side of string through 2 separate pulleys above my recliner as to be able to pull back and forth.
I'm thinking I may need a couple double pulleys or something. I just need the rope to stay taught but also allow me to move it about 25 feet. This may not even be possible but I know there's some engineers around here.
