so I was thinking that if I buy a Honda Accord that since the transmissions are known problems I was going to change the oil with synthetic every 7500 miles and change transmission fluid every other change does this sound like a decent idea or is it over kill or not enough let me know what you guys think any other advice is appreciated also what kind of fluid does honda transmission take and do they have is a a preference for oil as well thanks guys

That is overkill unless you are doing 15,000 mile engine OCI's.
If you are that worried about it, I'd do 30k mile or even 20k transmission fluid drain and refills.
Once I bought a used Chrysler with the early ultradrive (ie ultra-fail) transmission with ugly looking transmission fluid. I would siphon 2-3 quarts out of the dipstick tube every month or so until it looked good. I didnt plan on keeping it long, so I didnt want to disturb the pan and/or change out most of the fluid causing any problems.

Why would you want to buy a car with a known problem thats expensive if repairs are needed?

If you enjoy working on the car then go for it. I do a pan drop and trans filter change every year on the van in my sig. It sees maybe 10k miles/year.

The accord is a good car . It had very few issues reported on identifix. Only 3 were transmission related. And I cannot find any midsize cars that are anymore reliable than the accord , everything seems to have a weak spot.

I'm assuming this is a V6 Accord with the 5AT? I don't think there is any issue with the 4 cylinder models. Or the last few years of V6s for that matter.
I changed the fluid every 15,000 miles on the Odyssey I had. It's so easy to do, why not do it if you want. The hardest part about changing the fluid on a Honda is washing and drying the funnel before you use it. Just use Honda's DW-1 fluid. Last time I bought some it was only $8.23 a quart at the dealer, compared to Transmax IMF for $6.99 at O'Reilly's. That's only $3.72 extra each time to use the correct fluid.

what's wrong with their transmission? My brother has an 08 accord with 100,000 miles on it and no problems with the transmission.
If you're getting an automatic, I would use Redline ATF in the transmission. It will really help the transmission last a long time.
And yes, I think changing the ATF every other time you change the oil is a bit overkill.

I would be fine 1 between the years of 2000 to 2005 and they were known for some [censored] transmissions then

What year/model accord? Though rare, the 4cyl versions can be had with MT. The car from the mid-2000s is my favorite.
So consider MT.
Also it appears that 4 cyl versions are more reliable, though my inlaws' 01 accord had an AT fail in 28k of extremely hilly driving. To put it in perspective though, the 02 camry only got an AT replacement at around 90k...
I think it is very sound. But keep it easy on yourself... Install a supplimental cooler, and get a topsider type fluid suction machine. Pull the 2-3 quarts from the top, and just replace those. Then service every 36k and youll be doing fine.

really because I was under the impression in order to get to the filter that you had to take apart the transmission maybe on newer Hondas have a transmission filter but not the older ones I'm used to
