After reading and studying on this Web site I stopped using fram filter in my Sonoma and started using Purolators and my oil doesn't get as black as it used to for the same mileage on the oil so I think Pure Ones and Premium Plus are doing a good job. My only concern is that the First and only Pure One I used I had to add 1/2 quart to bring low oil level up and I never, ever had to do this before with this truck, where did the oil go? Is it just a coincidence that it happened when I used the first Pure One ever on this truck?

Could it be possibile that:

1)Your filter leaked or leaks

2)The more filter media in PPO soaks up more oil

3)You changed oil brands

My point with the "They do retard timing for a reason" had more to do with correct fuel/air ratio than knock. You'd be running richer, for a few HP, when you want your engine to outlast the body. In such a case, I just don't feel it is worth the additional carbon. But as 99 GASE2 says, the computer will likely learn out the mod over time. They can only compensate so much, but it should be enough to get it back to a near-stoichiometric ratio, negating the gain from that particular part.

Again, not that it should really matter. We just pick up a lot of ideas from the performance-billed sites, and sometimes reflection on what they actually are and do is a good thing. That's all I'm saying.

No Problem with that. Ive actually got a A/F ratio gauge ordered. Should be in this week. Now when will it be installed at the way its looking right now sometime next year

I'm afraid you demonstrate a lack of understanding about lambda/fuel trim closed loop control. Without changing displacement or volumetric efficiency the only way to increase HP is by enriching the mixture. You can't do that by fudging the coolant temp input. Your engine runs at stoichio whenever it's hot and not under WOT. All fudging the coolant temp input will do is cause the fuel trim valves to shift so as to bring the mixture back to stoichio.

Fudge it too far and the system will go into it's "limp home" mode. You would definately notice that and your MIL would come on to boot. Since that hasn't happened your mixture has remained at stochio even with the fudged collant temp input. And even if you could you enrichen to a best power A/F ratio you'd end up destroying the catalytic converter. Bottom line is your not making any more power. It's all in your head.

Btw, unless you bought a wide band O2 sensor based A/F meter all you're going to get is a cheap gadget that measures O2 sensor cross-counting. Pretty much worthless for measuring true A/F ratio but good for telling if your O2 sensor is alive and holding the mixture at stoichiometric.

I did buy a a/f meter capable of wideband measurments as the stock O2 sensor is wideband. Catalytic converters dont corcern me in the least, Wouldn't really care if they failed. Well its hard to imagine its just in my head as it ran .1 tenth faster overall with the mod enabled, And yes it was run on the same day with a 1 hour cooling down time to give the engine time to cool down before each run.

Im not trying to start an Argument or insult anyone.

Neither am I. I only want you understand what you did will have no effect as the OBD II system will compensate by trimming the long term fuel values. My mistake on the coolant temp, I see you fudged air temp but the result will be the same.

Interesting the truck's stock O2 sensor is wideband. Can't say I've ever seen that but I normally steer clear of American made vehicles. Doesn't it have two sensors and are they both wideband?

At any rate, if you decide to enrichen mixture using a viable means you should remove the cat. Based on your cavalier attitude I'm assuming Kentucky doesn't do emission inspections. Course, that doesn't address the moral issue but I'll leave that aspect for others to debate.

Yeah one before the cat and one after. Im not sure if they are both wideband. The one in front of the cat is wideband not sure about the one behind it. Here in Ky there is no emissions. Theres really no need around here theres never any problems with the air quality except for when its spring then the allergies will keep you inside for a little while.

I live in Lexington, KY, and I wish they would test vehicle emissions here!

I can imagine how one wouldn't notice in a small town, but the first time I walked down a moderately busy road here I noticed (subjective measure by nose and throat) that vehicle emissions were far worse than busy streets in big city Atlanta, for example.

The one thing I do wish here was that the coal companies were actually punished for doing crimes. Ex. A coal company came and mined under a womans house and the house collapsed. the coal company dint care they paid here to have her house rebuilt it just cost them about 200,000 while the coal they mined from underneath her house was worth over 1 million. There was charges filed but they amounted to 1,000 a Joke really.

Yes, this is an issue in KY where you may buy land not realizing that someone else owns mineral rights to it (which you are not getting with your purchase), so they can come and mine them out under you.
