I imagine they will but they did ask for his oil change receipts which he had app the previous owners records. He had the last two done at Hyundai dealership the past ten months because he knew the engine could be a problem.
It happened on the weekend and he went in today, they were too busy to give him any timeline or idea of warranty or loaner coverage.

Well I'm about to hit 175k on my Hyundai (2.4L), but it's a 2010. Never an engine issue.... yet. I've done so little to it, but I'll continue to do 5k or less OCI's and drive it till it gives up, I give up, or get bored and feel like something else.
Have a neighbor and her Kia had suddenly lost the engine. I don't know what happened but last I heard she is working something because I guess it is one of the engines/year so she is try to work out an engine replacement. So it still sits - waiting to see how long this is going to take.

The problems started in 2011 and continue at least to 2015, beyond that they are too new to know for sure yet.
They called my old co-worker today and everything is approved. No cost for engine replacement or rental car. He is relieved. Despite being able to replace it himself in the shop the engine itself would still cost thousands.
The total warranty claim was $9000 apparently. (Canadian)

They've been making the Theta 2.4L since 2006. In 2011 they went GDI and the problems appeared. 2015 and on the problems seem to have greatly been reduced.
