Where I live this morning I noticed the latest quart bottles of the 5W-30 and 10W-30 SuperTech Full Synthetic no longer claim ACEA qualification - strictly API SM/ILSAC GF-4 and previous API qualifiers. The bottles are no longer embossed with "WPP" on the bottom, either - instead, a "G". The price is still $3.01/qt. Anyone else noticed this? In my wildest dreams, this change could indicate SuperTech Full Synthetic is now supplied by SOPUS and contains EOPs. In my wildest dreams... (I'm sure that last part ain't happenin'.

(I also noticed TropArtic's price was boosted from 1.52/qt to 1.72/qt. since the last time I checked. WalMart's TropArtic price has always been ~4 cents higher on the west coast)

Ray, I've noticed this on the quarts for the longest time. But the 5 quart jugs still say WPP. I don't know if I just have slow stock and there's been a change or what...

My TropArt is still $1.48, btw.

It's still $1.48 here. The real price shocker is all the other brands! Castrol GTX is something like $2.70 - $2.80 or even higher at most of the big name auto parts retailers!

Well that datasheet is from 2005. Surely they don't have 2 suppliers, 1 for the quart and 1 for the 5 qt jug. Specialty Oil out of Houston ironically makes "Supra Tech" dino oil sold at every convinience store in my area. I've convinced myself at times they are part of SOPUS but am not quite sure. I haven't found much up to date web info on them.

Who knows, the stuff may still be blended or packaged here.

I have read somewhere here on BITOG that Wally World does, indeed, have two oil blenders.
Warren and Specialty may each blend some SuperTech products, or may make the same stuff and distribute it regonally, with some overlap, as needed.

Yes, dw, it is quite common knowledge that there are two suppliers. What would be surprising is to have 3 or more. SOPUS (or rather Pennzoil Quakerstate) also used to be a primary supplier but had stopped. It appears they have started once more and if Ray's observation is correct, there may be yet another.

Trop Artic has changed to 1.68 here also. The walmart here only has supertech syn in the 5 qt. jugs. I checked several of them in 5w30 and 10w30 they all have WPP on them. I'm most interested in finding out who the base oil comes from. Does anyone know if the jugs have a 800 number for product info on them?

Just checked, there is no number to call

I've recently been reading that prices (on at least dino) are going up, maybe I should start stashing some ST synthetics before they do as well. BTW, 5W30 Syn seems to be non-existant in the past couple weeks (at least the three around my house). Is this the case outside the Baltimore area? Glad I bought 6 jugs of it earlier in July for the winter months.

Well I havent seen the new Jugs of supertech
but all 4 walmarts I was at in the last 2 weeks
have stopped carrying Trop-Artic.
also The motorcraft filters are nearly gone
replaced with Autolite filters.
The autolites look Incredably Cheap and misleading
for instance
The motorcraft fl-820S the S means it has silicone
antidrainback.

The autolite AL-820S (not sure about the AL part)
has a nitrile black anti-drainback and just looks
really really cheap. The supertech's looked
much better.

Ray, sorry, I posted this in another thread. Yes, I checked my wally world today and indeed ALL the quarts (synth and dino) seem to be SOPUS. They do indeed have a little "G" stamped at the bottom just like the QS bottles.
