I honestly think most manufacturers don't say change the trans/differential fluids more frequently because even with longer drivetrain warranies most will last to outside the year/mileage warranty before they puke, even when one is especially negligent in their maintenance habits. And many people start contemplating getting a new vehicle pretty much as soon as the last one is paid off. To look at some people I know they don't even wait that long, and then a dodgy diff or trans becomes owner number two's problem.
But personally, I like "paid for", so I always do a 2 year/30K schedule on diff and trans fluids. I may go a bit longer with power steering and coolant, but not much. I've been doing this for the better part of 20 years and knock wood its served me well.
