Hi,

Does anyone still make a basic passenger car that is naturally aspirated, port injected, NON turbo, with conventional transmission (NON CVT)?
I can not find any! Closest I see is the Elantra.....naturally aspirated, port injected, NON tubro, BUT its a CVT.

Thanks

You know, both of my VWs are DGI with turbo. I change the oil and filter every 5000 miles or six months and (knock on wood), have had no issues with them to date. You can see the mileage in my signature. I bought both new so one is over 9 years old and the other 6-1/2 years old. I agree with you on the CVT but I think rigorous and regular maintenance will give you good life on a turbo GDI vehicle. I also use 89 octane in the Passat and 93 in the All Track, both of which are always Top Tier.

You might be able to find a closeout 2025 Versa or Sentra with a manual transmission.

The HRV just got DI for 2026, but there are no problems with it, and the CVT is nothing to worry about, either :)

Toyota's hybrid ECVT isn't really a CVT despite the name. It has planetary gears and also a proven reliability record. Their non-hybrid CVT has a real first gear and is also reliable.

DI is really only a problem in turbos.

I could only wish... get rid of all this plastic crap, and tech I dont need. Although Subaru has been pretty good so far with the current market, I would not hesitate to find a 77 F250 supercab and daily it... or the like. Ive had my hay-day with many rides. something simple like the old 240/300 inline 6, overdrive transmission or manual, full size car or truck bed would suffice, without all these dings and dongs and reminders, and beeps etc. This efficiency BS of californication rules how does this work out now, whereas some of my past older vehicles did get reasonable miles per gallon with a well tuned rig. and vice versa, new vehicle with the expectation of higher MPGs disappoint.

Safety standards, not emissions issue. Safety standards made vehicles really heavy.

something simple like the old 240/300 inline 6, overdrive transmission or manual,
I have owned multiple 300/6 - some with the NP 4 speed, one with a 4-speed OD and 1 fuel injected with C6. Great engine. However my Nissan VQ40's with the RE5R05 transmission are superior in every way - power, MPG, longevity. Of course their Naturally aspirated Port injection with VVT so 🤷‍♂️

Was hard enough me finding my daughter a car without a turbo.
A new Civic was the choice but sadly has the DI and CVT but NO Turbo and she got the NON Hybrid version.

As she is driving it home from the dealer and pulls into the driveway she ask me " do I have to give it some time before I turn it off" Nope I said your old car was a turbo, her response was a simple "GOOD"...

Sadly, LONG GONE are the days of simple cars and things that make sense...

IF we can get EPA and BIG BROTHER out of the car companies and out of my drivers seat perhaps things could return to normal one day? I can dream can't I?

Just think... Life with no stupid auto start stop button and can I wish for NO DEF in my diesel?
I wonder if relaxing (CAFE) standards a bit would end that stupid CVT and DI ?

When government gets in the way of of "practical " we got problems but its nothing new. I can still remember as a kid back in 1970 something my uncle and dad all hot headed about this new thing called a Catalytic Converter attached to the bottom of dads then new 1978 Oldsmobile...

I remember one saying IF you park on tall grass it can start a forest fire and then some talk about bubba down the street could remove it for a fee...
Dad never did anything except buy a Volvo in 82...

Ultra reliable DI engine.

Mazda Skyactiv DI is nothing to worry about.
A lot of people on here are worried about DI but a well designed system can work well. The direct injection in my Corvette is one of those systems. I have a used oil analysis of a 7000+ mile OCI that had no fuel in it. And it was a Wearcheck report using the GC method so it can be trusted. The LT1 engine doesn’t have a history of bad intake valve deposits either.

Elantra has the 10-year warranty 100,000 mi le. Not bad to have you're scared of the Cvt
But they've been out a few years now and don't seem to be failing at least behind a 2L 150 horsepower motor.
