Pennzoil, Boy have the times changed though... My Dad said the same as yours, due to the Palmer commercials of the era may have driven people away, but that's what draws me to it even more... I think it's a great product now. Their Pennzoil Ultra Platinum line is good.I will use any brand of oil except Pennzoil. Dad said not to use Pennzoil.. Good enough reason for me.

You should see how quiet the GTL quaker state/pennzoil platinum 5w-40 run. That GTL base runs quieter than any other euro oil i've used for whatever reason. Valvetrain on the buzzy mitsubishi was dead silent with those. Running castrol 0w-40 right now in it and it's certainly much quieter than how it sounded with 0w-20 but still not as quiet. Shoving my ear into the wheel well of my ohv 6.2 Quaker State 5w-40 was a bit quieter than castrol 5w-40 but not by much.We were a Quaker State family up until I was about 18 and got into my Datsun Z-Car phase, at which point I started running Castrol. Then when I found out how many race teams used Mobil 1, along with it being Porsche's factory fill among others like Corvettes, I made the switch to Mobil.
It's served me well in many vehicles so have stuck with it with no reason not to continue with it. They're all good these days so it all comes down to how much of a leg humper you are for a certain brand and why.
I like experimenting now just to see if I notice any difference whatsoever in how a the vehicle runs. Mobil 1 0W-40 has made every engine I've used it in quieter so I'm probably going to stick with it across all vehicles that don't require something thinner.
Same here. The Cobalt SS forums were so full of Mobil 1 fanboys (because the Cobalt SS had "Mobil 1" printed right on the oil fill cap) so I decided to go another route on purpose. Because I'm just a contrarian.I was really turned off to Mobil 1 when I first came here many years ago. At the time it had such a rabid fan base it was a real turn off, there was even a thug squad that would jump you if you dared to say anything negative about it.
Exxon kept Mobil lubricants and dropped their own.Mobil 1 is a no go for me. I’m sure it’s a personal bias but (old man reason) but Exxon brand (evolved to Mobil) oil change stickers were on the majority of Chevrolets that I personally repaired (under warranty) camshafts, lifters, and valve guides. This was the mid to late seventies. I realize that it’s not remotely the same oil now. Corvettes did come with a recommendation to use Mobil 1 oils in the last 20 years or so. Mobil 1 doesn’t have that safe feeling and out of principal I suppose… First impressions are hard to overcome.

Back when I was younger and road dirt bikes it came time to change the coolant and can remember arguing with my dad because I wanted to get Peak antifreeze because Jeremy McGrath rode for Peak Honda Pro Circuit. Of course it was the only coolant for my YZ!Is there going to be a series - or just Mobil 1 ?
