If I catch a good sale on it, I'll buy it. Other than that, I'm not a fan of it. Too much advertising on Mobil 1
Does anyone else not like Mobil 1 for no real reason?

We were a Quaker State family up until I was about 18 and got into my Datsun Z-Car phase, at which point I started running Castrol. Then when I found out how many race teams used Mobil 1, along with it being Porsche's factory fill among others like Corvettes, I made the switch to Mobil.
It's served me well in many vehicles so have stuck with it with no reason not to continue with it. They're all good these days so it all comes down to how much of a leg humper you are for a certain brand and why.
I like experimenting now just to see if I notice any difference whatsoever in how a the vehicle runs. Mobil 1 0W-40 has made every engine I've used it in quieter so I'm probably going to stick with it across all vehicles that don't require something thinner.

Mobil 1 is a no go for me. I’m sure it’s a personal bias but (old man reason) but Exxon brand (evolved to Mobil) oil change stickers were on the majority of Chevrolets that I personally repaired (under warranty) camshafts, lifters, and valve guides. This was the mid to late seventies. I realize that it’s not remotely the same oil now. Corvettes did come with a recommendation to use Mobil 1 oils in the last 20 years or so. Mobil 1 doesn’t have that safe feeling and out of principal I suppose… First impressions are hard to overcome.
I was really turned off to Mobil 1 when I first came here many years ago. At the time it had such a rabid fan base it was a real turn off, there was even a thug squad that would jump you if you dared to say anything negative about it. That has faded a good bit, and my aversion to the brand as well. I still don’t tend to use it, but I did recommend the 0w40 to my son for his VW and he’s been running it ever since.
Pennzoil, Boy have the times changed though... My Dad said the same as yours, due to the Palmer commercials of the era may have driven people away, but that's what draws me to it even more... I think it's a great product now. Their Pennzoil Ultra Platinum line is good.I will use any brand of oil except Pennzoil. Dad said not to use Pennzoil.

Over the years I’ve had a love/hate for with Mobil 1. I started using it in 1988 and I used it almost exclusively during that era (I did use Amsoil for a little while in 1991 and 1992) But after the Tri Synthetic formula went away I started feeling like Mobil 1 wasn’t quite as good for a while and that’s when I started using Pennzoil and then eventually German Castrol. Today I’m a big fan of Mobil 1 again but not their basic vanilla formula, I think their best options are ESP, EP, Truck and SUV as well as their various Supercar and 0w-40 offerings
I usually use the new Quaker State full synthetic now in our vehicles. I love the quietness of it and Valvoline.
You should see how quiet the GTL quaker state/pennzoil platinum 5w-40 run. That GTL base runs quieter than any other euro oil i've used for whatever reason. Valvetrain on the buzzy mitsubishi was dead silent with those. Running castrol 0w-40 right now in it and it's certainly much quieter than how it sounded with 0w-20 but still not as quiet. Shoving my ear into the wheel well of my ohv 6.2 Quaker State 5w-40 was a bit quieter than castrol 5w-40 but not by much.
Same here. The Cobalt SS forums were so full of Mobil 1 fanboys (because the Cobalt SS had "Mobil 1" printed right on the oil fill cap) so I decided to go another route on purpose. Because I'm just a contrarian.
I used to use it exclusively for 20 years. One day I ran Valvoline synthetic in my sisters car instead of Mobil 1 and it was noticeably quieter. Went back to Mobil 1, immediately noisier. That was it for me.
I've used plenty of Mobil 1 over the years as well as many other brands.
I am pretty brand-agnostic in that anything which meets the required specs is worth a try, especially when it comes at a deal that gives solid wallet spec. While I avoid bottom feeder oils (you know what I'm talking about) I do look for value and can usually find it.
