I actually had 2 this year, plus I just got home from the "leftover" meal at party #2's house.

This is the 3rd year we've gotten together at #2's house. I'm all for family, and I had an excellent small gathering with mine, but there's something extremely refreshing about a bunch of 25-30 year olds (or any age group, but that's ours) who can actually plan, contribute to, and participate in an event like a Friendsgiving. We all love our families, but let's face it we can't be our real selves around some family members. Plus it's a great way to put down the phones, sort of, and talk among ourselves.

We had ~30 people last night, and almost everyone brought food. Real, home made food. Something else I feel is lost with a lot of people in my age group including myself.

So, does anyone else participate in a "Friendsgiving" in addition to a family get together?

When I was still in the Navy we did all the time. I loved it. It was before the term was coined.

This year my family, just the Wife and my two kids went camping for the long weekend.

Campground was booked solid. We had a blast with the other campers. I air fried a 15lbs Turkey. It came out perfect. A bunch of ate together. We will do Christmas with family.

A bunch of my college friends try to do that, but its been tougher and tougher to get everyone together, especially with more kids and people moving farther apart. It's always a great time when we we do get together though you know what they say, you can choose your friends, but not your family.

We do something similar, usually in middle to late September.

That way - it has cooled off a little bit from summer, and it's a good "Middle" point between 4th of July and Thanksgiving.

When living in an New York City apartment in a residential neighborhood dominated by younger single adults, we did this a few times. It was great!

The NYT had a story about a bunch of high school friends who played football Thanksgiving afternoon. Most of the group has done it for 68 years in a row. They said this was the last year as the people left in the group were in their 80s, Too old to play football anymore.

Nope. Not interested in getting together with a bunch of fake people and pretending to enjoy talking to them about their aspirations, jobs, dreams, etc.

I spend my time with my family since I don't get to see them very often, or at least not as often as I used to. To me that's more important.

We spent Thanksgiving with family and friends. Everybody brought something. Can you tell I like prime rib?

I would be down. If only I had friends.

We always have a few strays at our Thanksgiving celebration. I have three kids and they usually have a friend or two who is missing out on the feast.

I love to buy a few of those bags full of food that the grocery store gives to the poor folks, too....
