Heck if I know, lol. They simply told them that was the problem and that was that. The noise was gone.

I can say it is not a ticking noise.
 
Note that MDS will not FAIL due to oil viscosity, it simply reacts differently. Many 5.7 owners report MDS still engages fine with up to 30 weight oils. Just differently, probably losing mileage and efficiency to the thicker oil. But nothing breaks.

And SRT8 6.1 has oil squirters that shoot oil onto the piston crown undersides. Thus HOT oil temps. That's why the different oil spec.
