Whenever I am driving, a thought often occurs to me, "Have any of these cars around me had an oil change recently?". I often drive around thinking that my car is the only one with fresh oil in it with the level at the full mark and everyone else is driving sludged engines two or more quarts low. I know this is not always true, but I take pride in maintaining my vehicles and seeing how most people I talk to are either ignorant or apathetic (usually both) when it comes to vehicular maintenance, it may as well be true. And don't get me started on ATF flushes! Anyone else have similar experiences?
Do you ever feel like only you do oil changes?

never crosses my mind. I don't care what other people do with their junk.
No I could care less. What does bother me tho are vechiles that leak oil allover the parking lot. Guess who has to clean that mess up once a month??? I'm out their in the blisstering heat witha bucket kitty lidder and a broom to clean up you're mess!!!!!
I don't always assume other cars are poorly maintained, but I do often wonder about their maintenance and repair history.
I think that often as 7 out of 10 Chevy's and Fords I get behind smell like burning oil or rotten egg's......So I often wounder what their maintence schedule is to produce such lovely smelling car's so consistently!

I almost forgot ever time I check a friends or family members oil it is down. When I say family I mean extended not my Mom and Dad or my wifes because I service their vehicles. In fact I am the guy that tells people that they power steering or transmission fluid is low by the sound the vehicle is making.
I will say this much since my Father in law went to once a year oil changes with Amsoil as an Amsoil Dealer his vehicle has not been low on motor oil yet.When he was using NAPA brand 10W40 he was always low on oil every time I would go to visit.
Personely I do not understand what is so hard about poping your hood while the fuel pump at the gas station is takeing it's sweet time pumping the fuel into your car! I mean really not like theiris anything else to do at the gas station might as well check your fluids. I have around 80K on my car and only twice since I have owned it has it used any oil during an OCI. I still check my oil every time I get fuel. I also check my other fluids. You never know when something mechanical like a seal is going to fail. I would rather find out sitting at the gas station then a million miles from home with no place to stop etc.....

Nope, I can only hope they are not taking care of their vehicles. I get to fix them when they break.
However, some days it feels like the only thing people are doing are oil changes. .3 hours to do a 27 point inspection, change the oil, set tire pressure and check all fluids is ridiculous.
It takes that much time to get the car from the back parking lot, bring it in and get my parts for the oil change.

Sometimes at my old job, I would. Occasionally, it was true, hahaha.
I just am concerned I see their brake lights (or light sometimes) in time to stop! It must be a SC law that every vehicle registered in SC must have at least one signal bulb out. Even late-model cars are not exempt.

I could care less what others do with their cars. I prefer to keep my focus on the road and be concerned with people who are letting their minds wander to things other than driving.

You guys are harsh. Wondering if someone keeps up with the maintenance doesn't require so much brain power that you have to go into intense thought and take your eyes off the road. I wonder all the time, have never had a wreck. I didn't expect these kinds of reactions to the questions.

I marvel at the way in which people drive their vehicles, not so much the oil part of it.
I see so many folks driving nice cars who absolutely floor that poor vehicle to get up to speed instantly, only to have to slam on their brakes for the stop light ahead. Some folks I see do this every single time. It is amazing to me.
It makes we wonder how long there car will go without a major repair, etc, not to mention the hit they are taking on fuel economy.

I worry about those vehicles that my get stopped by sludge in the Castrol commercial. Pleeze not in front of me.

Nicer cars tend to have bigger engines, so in comparison to your 1.8/1.9 liter engine, it may seem like they are flooring it, but in reality, they might just be lightly pushing it.

i tend to talk to strangers and let them know if i see something wrong with their car, a tail light out etc.
i have no idea if it just happened or has been going on for months, i just look at it like if it were my daughter i would like some one to let her know, if i hadn't noticed her car issues.
