Do you charge a new battery before installation?

I've always installed a new battery right after purchasing it, but I've heard of a new people trickle charging a new battery first. I was just curious who does what.

Used to be never. But our Honda doesn’t like to fully charge, so when it is time, I will top its new battery off.

Everything else I’ve owned, swap and go. But for me, a short drive is 20 minutes and often at highway speeds, and many longer trips too. YMMV.

of the 5 batteries I have installed in vehicles over the last 4 years, I've gone from the store (Walmart, Costco) to the install...I have then put them on a Deltran Battery Tender until they show fully charged...more than a couple took almost 8 hours to reach fully charged...no issues with any of these batteries after install...

Yep.

Right after I get them home.

Most of them took a while to be fully charged even after the drive home. The two MB in my signature are particularly sensitive to battery voltage, and have genuine MB batteries in them.

Allow me to add that I didn't do this years ago, but starting about 5 years ago, with the S600, when I got a new H8 AGM in the car, I decided to ensure it was full charge - and it took quite a while on the charger to get there.

I keep a trickle charger connected to the car while I change the battery and it stays on until the new battery is fully charged.
