Do the Kia Theta Engine Problems Continue in Later Model Years?

I dont know either......that dct is a dry unit and quite problematic for overheating.
The dct is the main reason why we did not get one.

Good engine though. I prefer it to Honda's 1.5turbo.

I don’t know why Hyundai decided to mate this engine with the DCT transmission. The DCT has been problematic for years. I wonder why they didn’t just use the 6 speedautomatic from the Veloster Turbo. Probably has something to do with the weight of the Tucson and also needing a transmission that is AWD capable.

Well.....the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3 can be had with AWD (mine is) and there is a six speed transmission. It's curious the "all new" 2021 Kia Sorento in the top of the line motor is spec'ed to come with a DCT.

Is that the same or similar transmission DCT that Hyundai uses? Maybe-maybe not.

The new DCT is a wet clutch unit.
Much more reliable than their dry unit.
Cooling will be much better

Your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3 uses a different 6 speed transmission that won’t bolt up to the 1.6T. The Veloster Turbo automatic wasn’t designed for AWD applications. It would have been nice if Hyundai could have given the 1.6T engine a conventional 6 speed auto with AWD but unfortunately they didn’t.
