Do synthetic engine oils save gas?

Because I kept such good records for the truck I was able to review a 20k mile period of 10k miles each of Mobil 1 5w30 and Quaker State 5w30.

The difference in the two was less than 1/10th mpg over all types of driving in all seasons/weather for each oil.

If you're looking for better mileage I think you'd do best by hiring an old Grandma as a driver.

There is no one correct answer for everyone.

I personally have indeed experienced an improvement of 3 mpg in my 2004 Toyota Rav4 with about 20,000 miles on it. It now has 33,000 miles on it. I use Amsoil 0w30. Now, that is my experience only, in this particular car. I did not switch to this oil to get an improvement in mpg, it was an unexpected treat! I do not recommend switching to Amsoil soley to get a mpg improvement. But, to make a blanket statement saying it does not improve mpg is, in my opinion, not acurate. Try it for yourself, in your vehicle.
