Hey every one I bought my Silverado used 2 years ago I have been running Valvoline Max life with no issues. The truck has no leaks. I was wandering do I need to keep running the Max life or can I switch to Pennzoil YB like I run in the wifes Sequoia?? (Truck has 99k the only thing it hauls is a quad and a deer if I am lucky)

My GS doesn't leak or use oil. I run PYB in it. My girlfriend's Protege burns alittle oil, I use PHM in that car.

Any dino your truck will love, if no leaks are present and you do not consume oil no need for HM.

+1 I don't use it unless I could see a benefit from using it.

Seems like i remember when SM came about that the HM oils were seen as a way to avoid using SM oils.

Are all HM oils now SM rated?

All but QS HM, it has no rating or certifications on it at all. Makes me wonder about the add pack, but no one has done a uoa/voa on it yet.

I sent a virgin sample of QS HM 5w30 to Blackstone, and it got there 1/20. Awaiting results, and will post VOA very soon......jr

Part of the add pack is slick 50, not sure what is in that though.

The API EOLCS website also doesn't list them as being API approved. The QS website just has the cheesy old "meets or exceeds" on it's spec sheet without actually being approved.

Unless someone is having an issue, consumption, seepage etc there is no need for a HM oil, keep going with what has worked to get to the high mileage

+2. Save the HM oil for if/when you have an oil burning issue or a leak.

but if you have to go with hm oil, I do recomment castrol gtx high miles ( summer cause its thick oil in winter). maxlife, penn hm, and mobil 1 hm, wich ever is cheap . but I do preferd max life.

I think it's technically considered an "additive" due to the Slick50 advertised on it. I like SOPUS products but i think they really messed up by doing that. I wouldn't run an oil without some sort of API certification on it.
