Do Auto-RX "stains" on engine's internals come off?

Well, they aren't really stains, it's just an oil coating that whipes right off. And I love Auto-RX BTW. But I did the first maintenance dose of Auto-RX during my last oil change interval and the metal visible through the oil fill hole turned light brown from this coating. Was hoping it would "wash away" later on but am now a few hundred miles into next oil change interval with Mobil 1 (no Auto-RX used), and the layer is still there.

Must I use dreaded conventional oil to rinse it off or will it stay on even if I do that? Maybe I just need to give it more time. This engine is an 03' VW 1.8T that has only ever been fed high quality synthetics. I think a more volatile oil (conventional) would deposit more oil vapors on the discolored metal parts and that should help wash off the coating, not to mention the fact that Frank says conventional oil rinses this stuff faster than synthetics. So did anyone experience this discoloration and did it last long?

If it makes you feel any better, I have it, too. Same engine ('02 A4) and I completed my clean & rinse about 8K miles ago. Been using the maint. dose also.

Thanks for your post. Knowing someone else has the same thing does make me feel better. It's not a big deal. It's just cosmetic and it can be whiped off if I wish.
A big plus is that I did get better gas mileage with the maintenance dose. Next oil change, I'll be doing it again and likely from now on.

Did you rinse with dino or go straight to M1? If you didn't rinse with dino, start all over and follow the application instructions to the letter.

Don't worry, I'm a firm believer in following instructions to the letter. I just did a maintenance dose; engine always used VW 502 approved synthetic oils and Mann filters so it was quite clean inside but figured there had to be some crud in the ring packs and after seeing the results I think there was.
Auto-RX is a very dark oil, so what I'm seeing is probably just a layer of Auto-RX sticking to the metal.

I don't know what JAG rinsed with but I used Rotella T 5w40....group 3 syn OK for clean and/or rinse phases. These engines spec synthetic only and I wouldn't feel comfortable with any dino in the 1.8T for any length of time. Not unless you're trying to create sludge...
