Core i3, Windows 8, both 4GB DDR3, 500GB, Samsung is $379 but NICE keyboard, Gateway is $329.

Acer is same specs, 15.6" i3 4GB and 500GB, Win 7. NIt too too bad condition, actually rather nice, solid 8 out of 10 all around. Black finish, average keyboard, weak spot is probably touch pad on the unit itself, Acer has the whole square attached to left mouse and right mouse buttons, otherwise no issues and just a little wear on space bar. Either here or EBay for sale.

Which one would you choose, Samsung or Gateway?

And who wants photos?

In Best Buy right now.

First impressions:

1) I figured Windows 8 out right away. Not sure what all the squawking is about. Debating to put on ClassicShell or not.

2) My present Acer has the same specs, but ohh the Samsung keyboard feels GLORIOUS compared to it! I put some wear on the space bar, sure. The Samsung just feels better. And I have been on it for about 10 minutes. Smooth.

3) If I buy this, the Acer will go to a BITOGer or EBay.

4) The pics are on their way.

5) The Gateway has a software problem, and, though it is $50 less, I have a $20 coupon. This is the last of this model, apparently. And it looks good. Better than the Gateway...

My Acer is the black one on the right, running on battery power as the screen sure does get brighter. The wear on spacebar key should be about the only thing wrong with it, if someone is interested. The specs are matched to the model to the left: Both are Core i3, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, mine has Win 7, both have webcams, the cover to my DVD drive is off for some reason but it does open and close, I give mine an 8 out of 10 the one on the left (silver Samsung_ is brand new, this one is last one of it. Then they all go straight up to like $600.

I will sell the Acer if I get this, for certain. If interested, please contact me.

Yes, Acer & Gateway are the same company. I've had good luck with Gateway's lately. One of the most recent models I've used had the worst touchpad I've ever used, but otherwise solid in every way.

I've never been impressed with Acers, especially the bottom-of-the-barrel cheapies.

You should realize that the only difference you're getting between brand A and brand B is build quality (important) and design. The internals components will vary, even on the same model, depending on who can produce x number of units for x cost in x amount of time that particular day.

They're all the same for the most part. I have a Gateway laptop currently and it's been great.

The thing with laptops is HEAT. Heat will kill any laptop; keep them clean, keep the heatsink/fan ductwork dustfree and put new thermalpaste on the heatsink/processor interface after a few years and any modern laptop will serve you well IMO.

So you sold the Acer for $200 and got a new laptop with the same specs for $400? Was that non-worn out spacebar key really worth $200 to you?
