Disillusioned with Amsoil

When I called Amsoil the engineer would only say they use all of the different basestocks in their oil formulations . To me if Amsoil has moved into Group III basestocks then they are no longer special. I can and have used BITOG to find great deals on SM and SN rated oils that meet the fully synthetic definition at a much lower price. This has been a big help in a poor economy.


I have received deals on RP and G-Oil for my gassers.

While it is true that the normal prices that AA, AZ, Oreilly's, etc sell synthetics makes Amsoil and other boutique oils look reasonable in price, they very often have great sales that no boutique oil can compare with. I just bought 5 quarts of AFE 0W-20 and also a Mobil EP oil filter for $33.

Also, many of us do shop at Walmart and its everyday prices for 5 quarts is phenomenal.

While we are at it, how about a wife for one of my sons that can field dress a deer,handle a rifle, a shotgun and has a 4wd truck. Post pic of the truck. yes I am off topic.

In February PepBoys had a Royal Purple deal. 5 qts of oil and an RP filter for $35( limit 2 p/ customer ). I got my 2 deals. 10qts of RP SN 5W20 and 2 RP filters for $70. I also had a $10 PB's reward card so it ended up being $60. Not the 1st time they have had deals on RP oil and filters. They actually do it quite often but this was the best one yet. Usually it is $40 or $45 for the 5qts and filter. Or, $35 for just the oil.

I got a similar deal last year from Summit Racing on 5 Qts of RP oil and a filter for the same $35( I got free shipping as I bought other stuff that got it to the free level at the time ). Deals on RP are out there. Not so much Amsoil as they have limited retail outlets it can be purchased at. I have never seen it on sale in those few places here that sell it( AAP and some speed shops ). Amsoil deals come from being a dealer/preferred customer or by getting it from someone who is that wiill pass on the savings.

Youc an get boutique oils for reasonable prices is my point.

Don't forget the most important test. The dog has to like her. All that other stuff is great but if your dog doesn't like her then throw her back and keep looking.

I agree that there are Royal Purple deals to be had (not as common as Pennzoil or Mobil deals but nonetheless there). I have also never seen a sale on any other boutique oil---Amsoil or Redline, for example.

I certainly never suggested that you stop shopping there.

Walmart would have to phenomenally change their way of doing business before I shop there.

Besides, if I can't afford to spend the couple of dollars more for oil it costs to not shop at a place whose business practices I don't agree with, yet can afford the purchase prices and upkeep of the cars, motorcycle and other equipment that oil goes in then I need to sell everything and walk.

This was the deal that lead to my post. I have a new to me Honda Accord 2008.The 4cyl. requires 5W-20. I did not have this on hand so instead of my normal Amsoil order I scored 4 deals. Much more reasonable and now that Amsoil is largely group III basestocks they have lost their uniqueness. No different than Castrol.
