its 8 bucks a month. I am thinking of dropping it. I can do it online so I thought if I had a issue I could reinstate it.
I did get them to lower the bill 25 a month for a year no contract.
though still want to drop it and get netflix. Wifey is balking.....

My receiver died a few years ago and I didn't have the protection plan, they added it for me and sent me a new receiver at no charge as long as I agreed to keep the protection plan for 6 mos.

What is the plan protecting you against? I assume it covers the cost of a service call. Anything else?

I would drop it. I find it hard to conceive of a situation where you would need services worth $96 per year average. I have had cable for ten years and have needed no service calls yet. Two relatives (one had Dish; one Directv) always resolved issues by themselves and/or with the help of the 800-number tech line.

??? contract with FOX resolved?

Dropping Dish. Direct tv being installed next Wed. I've had it with them using us as pawns in their negotiating with the various networks. Last year it was CBS taken off(don't care), CNN off(don't care), then threatening MASN where I watch baseball, hockey and BB, now Fox taken off.(Only one I watch) I have written them twice and they blame Fox but they cut Fox off early during negotiations. Like I told them, if their prices were cheaper, I would support their efforts, but they are not. I signed up with Direct @ Costco. Am saving money the first year, paying the same after that and getting $300 from Costco. Being rural, I have only satellite to choose from.

You have a dish on the roof or elsewhere connected by a long cable to a complex uhf receiver. A lightning spike nearby can do a lot of damage to the dish LNA electronics, right at the dish, OR the box. Just pointing it out.

How about dropping the whole dish/cable?
I do not miss fake news channels that brings about headaches, endless commercials. At the moment I use Netflix and Amazon prime.

^ I am trying to get there. wife is balking. lol
Netflix is what I suggested. Does it have cooking shows, Not Gorgon Ramsey like shows.
that would free up some money for other uses.

Dish always goes out in our t-storms, or good snow storm.

We have a antenna just for that.

Your option, your opinion, I disagree.

Lets let it at that.

If your receiver conks out call them and cancel. THey'll say why. You say the thing broke and you're done. They'll (probably) have a change of heart. Losing customers is a big deal.

If you have good internet connectivity get a Roku streaming stick and plug it in. Subscribe to Netflix and take it for a test drive prior to dropping Dish. The picture quality is very good

We have a Roku and Netflix...if you start subscribing to several channels on Roku like HuluPlus, Amazon and Blockbuster..it can get expensive.

Dish has great service and over the years has replaced a couple of tired DVRs, some badly waterlogged cables from the roof and a roof dish that probably got hit by lightning..no charge.

Newer TVs do not require Roku or similar device. If you subscribe to many services it defeats the purpose I agree. Amazon prime is also a shipping service, might justify for heavy Amazon shoppers. Otherwise Netflix is enough for most.

The happiness of the wife comes first, of course.

I understand all that, and yes we have a Roku unit and use it. But the kicker is I want FOX News, and they do not stream. Dish has screwed me over for the last time. I'm switching my TV, internet, and Telephone service, locked in wit a price guarantee for 3 years saving me $80 dollars a month with the same channels I got on Dish plus 2 preminum channels, high speed internet and unlimited telephone.

Dish claims to have the lowest average price out there, I'm not interested about averages, only what MY BILL IS.

You gotta do what's best for you. I compare prices pretty regularly and I can't beat Dish's pricing for what I have.
