Disappearing PP

I switch three (3) Toyota's from M1 to PP approx. 1.5 yrs. ago and none of them have consume any oil.

I even pour the used oil back into the 5 gt. jugs to measure and still couldn't detect any oil used.

I was worried when I switched because I used to be old school and never changed brands (the motor will blow up if I change...).

There are countless BITOGrs who run dino for 5-7k and state "doesn't burn a drop". And these dinos have relatively high NOACKs as well. I brought this up some time ago, and folks seemed to agree that NOACK doesn't correlate with real world consumption.



My personal suspicion is that there are certain engines that either have hot areas, or are just running hot overall, that may provoke certain high-Nowak oils to evaporate, where other oils may not do so. Of course, this is just my theory. I've seen used oil analysis of the sort you describe, and would integrate them into the theory by assuming that these engines simply didn't "provoke" the subject oil to evaporate. I would readily agree that this is a theory that is going to be pretty hard to nail down one way or the other.

What "other oil"?

I hope you are not checking the oil while the engine is running because that will give you an inaccurate reading.

Had an '03 Taurus with the Duratec and noticed to same thing. Sometimes would use up to a quart between 6K OCI's and other times not use a drop. That engine had during my tenure Castrol GTX 5w30, Mobil 1 5w30, Syntec 5w30, and Pennzoil Platinum 5w30. But I never noticed any correlation between brand of oil used and when it would use some. Driving conditions were the same and appeared to be totally random. So I guess it is a Ford thing.

My Nissan Titan has been running it for 6k miles and no consumption yet.

My brother's 07 F150 5.4 is on it's second run of PP. First run which went to 10K miles, burned about 2-2.5 qts over the 10K run. Not really sure why, but seems quite a few people have the same thing happen.
