Has anyone used the Range Technology (ODB port plug in device) or Smart Start Stop module that plugs inline with the hood switch to permanently disable the auto start stop on a late model GM that does not have a button to disable the system?

The Range unit is very popular on the truck boards. Many are running them. FYI-if you keep checking in the "For Sale" items on the various GM truck forums (there are at least three) you can sometimes find them used and slightly cheaper. Owners sell them after they get a "tune". If you don't know the forums I am talking about-send me a PM.

My tune removed it, depending on the selected mode. I can turn it back on whenever I want by switching the selected tune mode.

In my application if you put it into manual gear shift / lockout and move it to the highest gear auto start is also disabled in stock form.

Hard on starter and battery.
Worst of all if your trying to zip across oncoming traffic fast I would not want that on my truck. What if it hesitated to long to move
Starters and batteries have been strengthened for this purpose.
Starts instantly as soon as you take you're foot off the brake. But, you can also momentarily take your foot off the brake, then back on while wait at the light, and it will stay running.

You do realize that the start/stop consists of a totally different starter system that your '03 Avalanche/'06 Tahoe...don't you?

BTW-please go to the dealer and test drive a new truck...you don't have a clue as to their performance.

Well … and you don’t need S/S specific motor oil getting great fuel efficiency in cars like this

Rather not have it to save a few bucks in gas a month.
J.m.o
I have seen all sorts of stuff come and go over the 50 years In this business, some were good, some were great and others were total crap like seat belt interlock, automatic seat belts, hydro boost, thermactor pumps, emission carburetors, cylinder deactivation, etc.
IMO this falls into the crap category, overly complex and expensive to repair to save a few bucks and satisfy some agenda.

My last 2 cars with start/stop had electric a/c compressors so that wasn't a problem. But on other types, if you leave the a/c in the MAX setting, the engine will remain on.

Most don't so you get warm, humid air blown at you for 20 secs until the car decides it needs to restart to cool the cabin.

OH the horror. How did people ever survive 50 years ago before a/c became standard in every car?
Earlier you say you like stop/start for the quiet and smoothness (ie comfort) but then you mock people who want a comfort like A/C running continuously. Is it possible you’re just arguing for the sake of argument at this point?
