Just a little tricky. Believe there are forums about it on tacomaworld.com. You are fine. Not sure why the poster above hated on Toyotas but I love my truck. They keep it simple. I don't have to worry about 30 different sensors breaking on the Tacoma that's for sure. Good little pick up trucks that will last and last.

Also, I use the same crush washer for a while with no issues.

I was noticing last night that the dipstick tube makes a few turns as it goes into the engine. So it seems like you get one chance to pull the dipstick out after letting it sit. On the 2nd pull, the tube is all coated with oil from the 1st pull, so the 2nd reading isn't really useful.

Thanks.

However, after driving it for about 20 miles, the dipstick reads what appears to be 1 entire quart over. This was after letting it sit for 24 hours.

I also had a similar issue with my previous Tacoma (4-cyl).

I can't really drain any out unless I want to reuse the crush washer (or stick my finger in there while I try to put a new crush washer on). I also thought about just putting on a new, dry filter.

Should I obsess about this? Next time, I am putting exactly 5 quarts in, and not buying and splitting an extra quart in half.

Weird, but my last job we always had this issue with Tacomas. We would fill per spec and check and it seems fine then it would be over by quite a bit. I don't know why, but we had the same problem you're speaking of.

That's after checking the dipstick, with vehicle on level ground?

Just find it irritating that the dipstick doesnt works as it should.
Also the dealer here is extremely bad. They delivered the car to me full of quality issues. Scratched rear bumper that took me almost 3 months to fix since they work so slow, bumper was not installed properly and had a slight bulge, missing plastic screws on splash guards, found out some loose electrical tape on the OBD cables when i was fiddling with it (I have a wireless OBD reader) and now theres a slight rattle.

None of this have ever happened in Korean, American and European cars that i have owned.

First and "probably" last Toyota.

I can't fault you there. We have had a similar bad experience with our Hyundai dealer and our Santa Fe.

I know people that never changed theirs.

As for overfilling, all I do is dump 4.4qt juggs(takes 4.2).

Little overfill but never hurt no one.

If you're going to get flamed...I'm going to be taken to the courtyard and stoned. I have 270,000 miles on my crush washer (roughly 90 oil changes).
