Dipstick reading issues.

I always check my oil and its usually fine, however when I checked it this morning it gave a solid reading up to the max mark and then there is a load patches of oil going half way up the dip stick. Much appreciated thanks.

The same thing happens to me if I don't wipe the dipstick off before checking the level.

It could be just oil that's on the inside of the dip stick tube.

I do wipe off before checking my oil.

So the patches of oil are after wiping it off and reinserting it and pulling it back out?

Oil can't drain from the tube because there's an o-ring on the dipstick. Just ignore random oil patches.

I had trouble with the shape of the tube affecting the dipstick readings on a Honda Civic. It didn't leave patches on the dipstick, but rather a sharply slanted oil line vs. a straight line. I learned to twist the dipstick while removing it.

Occasionally, I'll get a full loaded dipstick all the way up from oil in the tube.
This sounds like a version of what you have.
