Went to check my oil on my 2002 Duramax yesterday. When I pulled out dipstick, the guage attached to wire wasn't there. I guess it fell into pan? Problem or not? Is it magnetic at all as I have heavy duty oil drain plug in pan? If not magnetic will it just fall to bottom of pan and rest peacefully? Any thoughts? Dreaded or otherwise?

That's a tough one. It's either going to rest in peace, end up chewing up the bottom end, or get sucked to the pickup screen on the oil pump. I'd probably drop the pan on that one because the unknowns are too much. It might not be a problem, but the chances of a catastrophe or too great IMO. Is it a lease? If not, do you plan on keeping it for a long time?

+1 Try one of those thin magnets with the extention. I have one that looks like a pen that I use for my breaks and drops that are magnetic. I'd look into replacing that soon

I dont think it will make its way into the engine. The pickup has a screen on it for a reason. I wouldnt worry about it, just put a new dipstick in it.
