I have a bunch of video's taken on a JVC 30GB camcorder. it was taken in widescreen, but when i open them they play back with the wrong aspect ratio in windows media player. Itunes don't want to open it. How do i view this videos correctly?

Have you tried using VLC? You can get it at www.videolan.org. It allows you to choose the aspect ratio (and things like whether or not you want the computer to deinterlace video if necessary). This program will playback nearly anything you can throw at it and it's FREE. Works with Winders/OSX/Linux.

Glad to hear it worked for you.

If you want to try using other players, you can try the K-Lite codec pack. VLC is always my fallback player when something else is having trouble. If VLC would come out with their own codec pack it would be game over for the competition.

VLC comes with pretty much any relevant codec decoder I can think of already compiled-in. For Windows users, the K-Lite codec pack is usually pretty complete and comes with everything rolled into one archive with an installer that let's you pick and choose what you want.
