The last couple of times I've changed the oil on the Dakota, the filter has been very difficult to remove, almost stuck. The only way I've been able to get the thing off is by applying enough force to the filter that the body winds up collapsing. Changed the oil on the Malibu today and the filter came off easily. I didn't think to try without the wrench, but I'm wondering if I could have done it by hand.
The Dakota uses the ST16 equivalent, filter, last time was a PureOne (PL14670 I think, but don't quote me on that) and the Malibu is using the PF47, last time I used a Bosch equivalent.
Both times I used a cap wrench to tighten the filters when I installed them but made sure not to overtighten. If the instructions say 3/4-1 turn, I tend to go the full turn.
Any idea what's holding the Dakota's filter on so tightly? Suction? Just one of those things?
