I'm looking into using a different oil filter on my 2002 Chevy Silverado with a 5.3L engine. This engine requires a Amsoil SDF64 filter. According to the Amsoil filter guide addendum the SDF64 has a anti-drainback valve but DOESNOT have a bypass valve. The filter I would like to substitute is the SDF30 which is exactly the same as the SDF64 except that it does have the bypass valve set at 7 to 9 psid and the SDF30 is 3/4" longer than the SDF64. My main concern is the bypass valve. The 5.3L engine has a internal filter bypass valve. I have been unable to find out from GM what this valve is set to. If it is set to a lower value than the SDF30 I don't think it would be a problem using it. However, if the engine valve is at a higher setting than the SDF30 there might be a problem. What are your thoughts on this?
