Different countries specifies different oils

I was talking to the local Australian Jeep dealer. He was proud that he could offer a quality dealer service with specially imported oil from America.

I asked him what oil he used, and he answered "Mopar 5W-40"

The approved engine oil grade for your Corvette is 5w30, but for track days, use 15w50.
Do not use 15w50 in your daily driven 5.3L , because good luck with warranty if you have an engine oil related failure.

I know flex fuel cars like those in Brazil tend to run on conventional 15w50 oils

I would say it's twofold...CAFE regulations and climate.

I know with my car the service interval is "lifetime" regarding the transmission, you "never have to change it". But in Canada it's every 60,000 miles. I'm not sure what it is in other parts of the world, but I heard they change it every 50,000 in the Middle East.

The thought of a lifetime ATF fill scares the [censored] out of me. Amazing there's a difference between US and Canada no service/service intervals. There are parts of the US that are a lot hotter than Canada, and places that are just as cold. It makes no sense to me. Lifetime fill or not I'd be changing it at least every 50K miles maybe sooner. This could be another example of the end user knowing better than the engineer who set the maintenance schedule.

Engineers' recommendatons/decisions,more so from OEMs', are always a compromise.
