Amsoil has a huge catalogue of top-quality products, covering every application you can imagine, like motorcycles, boats, heavy equipment, etc. Even though they are for very different applications, a lot of these oils appear to be very similar, and whats more, most of them carry the same API cert. - SL. Lets take a look:

ATM 10W-30 - SM (car)
ACD 30W/10W-30 - SL (car/diesel)
ASE 30W/10W-30 - SL (snowmobile)
WCT 10W-30 - SL (boats)

I know perfectly well you are supposed to use the Amsoil that is recommended for your application - ie, for cars, you would use ATM, SSO, or maybe ACD 30W.

But what if you were someone who just wanted to do something different? (Think Gary Allan) Technically, you could run any of these oils in a vehicle that spec'd a 30-weight oil - all of them are at least a 10W-30 oil, all are actually similar in their 100 C viscosity (about 10.5), and all are API SL rated. I know you might not get the best fuel economy out of all these, as the may not be FM, but they would provide good service, no? I think it would be really interesting to, say, run 10k with each of them to see what you got.

The same point coud be made about all the 40-weight oils - AMO, WCF, AFF, MCF.....

Just a crazy thought.......

Yes, but the TBN on all these oils is still in the 8-10 range, so I would think they could handle a 10K OCI at least. Also, unless you do all highway driving and have by-pass filtration, Amsoil won't actually last 25k miles.......

I have read in another post that the WCT 10W-30 oil is a good one for engines that don't see a lot of use...it was recommended for use in a BB Chev........

The by-pass filter is not always necessary when someone travels mostly highway.

The oils have different add packages and base oil blends tailored to their specific use . I really do not know if there would be different uoas between the oils as that would be hard to see the difference. The study would have to be under the most severe conditions then some ugly numbers would show up.
