I'm thinking of going in on a buy with a friend of mine on some of this oil...and run it in my Nissan.

I have seen VOA's here for the LE 8130, which is a 10w30 "diesel" oil with a fairly light add pack.

However, I can find anything on LE 8531, which is a 5w30 "gasoline" oil.

I currently run 5w30 in my Nissan, but just junk bulk Valvoline. Thought it would be fun to run something new in her.

Do you think the 5w30 would have a better add pack? Since the 10w30 is more of a "diesel or HD" oil, I thought the add pack would be higher. I definately don't want to decrease the additives even further if I go with the 5w30.

Anyone have any experiences or data they wanna share?

I am a LE 8130 user, and have been for several years. I have posted a few UOA's if you want to search the UOA section. What is it about the add pack that you want to see higher?

Since you are a chemist (stated on your profile), you might enjoy joining the Dyson DMW weblog (Dyson Analysis). Terry Dyson is testing 8531 in a VW GTI for his members right now. I think he could answer your questions wrt 8130/8531 comparisons better than anyone here. I have not tried the 8531 yet.

Good luck with whatever you chose to use. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I've already seen your uoa's. That engine would spit good numbers on olive oil. LOL!!

I got recent VOA's for both of these oils from LE. I got them in .pdf format on my phone. Someone PM me your email address, and I'll forward them to you if you can post them for me. Thanks.

I have just recently posted VOA's of both these oils in the VOA section.

Check those reports out.

Oh thanks for the link i had missed!
Are you a happy LE8531 user or worried about any issues, since you say that the engine and oil combo are maybe not suited to each other ?

Hey, good morning. On the initial UOA, the Sodium I found is from a previous diet of Valvoline SynPower. I was initially uncomfortable with copper showing up but I haven't had any unusual noises in the engine but by 40K I figured any assembly type lubes would be gone; unless LE oils are that good on the cleaning side. I'm not an expert but in this type engine, LE8531 doesn't seem to be a long interval oil based on my report. I had a couple of long highway runs on the first interval as well; I made sure I had the oil up to temperature for quite a long time but there was still over 1% fuel dilution. I'm about half-way through the second interval, this will be a winter run so I am looking forward to the second report.

Hello, thanks for the post! Did your previous uoa's have any fuel dilution reported ?
After all these years i am beginning to think fuel may not drain well during an oil drain as it is lighter than oil... any data to support this will really be helpful.
