Castrol Edge Euro 5W-30 A3/B4 is available at Walmart for $28 per 5 quart jug. It has the 502/505 approval.I think for my older non-DI engines, I’d be partial to 502/505.

Odd it can be LL01 approved but recommended for LL14FE+. But yes looks nice so far. Want to see the add package. What’s the point of KV100/HTHS?View attachment 271661
3.6HTHS with a KV100 of 12.4 gives a KV100/HTHS ratio of only 3.4. (I prefer to think of it this way to avoid having to think of a small decimal being bigger). For reference, I show the HPL 5w30 Euro to be 3.35 when similarly calculated. That's some VERY good company for this valvoline to be among.
My local Napa has the 5 gallon box of this stuff for $169 or ~$8.50/qt.
Given the certs, viscometrics and cost, perhaps this oil is a contender flying under the radar? For reference the 5w40 grade in the same line has an HTHS of 3.7, just one tenth higher.
I'd be be curious to see a VOA of this (none in that forum that I can find), the API SL suggest perhaps full SAPS add pack?
It’s a proxy for VII content because most VIIs can help kv100 but not HTHS. Or such is my understanding. Someone will correct/clarify if I’m mistaken.Odd it can be LL01 approved but recommended for LL14FE+. But yes looks nice so far. Want to see the add package. What’s the point of KV100/HTHS?
I think the 0w30 is by virtue of c30/504/507.What makes QS Euro mid-SAPS?
That makes sense. I've only seen the QS 5W-40 Euro, which is ACEA A3/B4. It's been available at Walmart stores or Walmart.com. I've not seen the 0w-30 C3 product.I think the 0w30 is by virtue of c30/504/507.
The 5w30 could be full saps. I’m not savvy enough on Euro specs to decode saps against MB229.xx or such. But I believe c30 is mid saps , since m1 0w30 esp is mid saps and c30/504/507.
M1 ESP 0W-30 is ACEA C3. Not sure if that matters if you don't have a DPF though.I like Valvoline but another good deal is:
Castrol Edge Euro 5W-30
Approved & Licensed specifications:
Suitable for use in MB 229.3
- ACEA A3/B4
- BMW LL-01
- MB 229.5
- VW 502 00 / 505 00
- Exceeds API SL
Regular price is $27.48 but I often see them on sale for 24.48 / 5 qt.
Many who use M1 0w40 use it in vehicles which require lesser viscosity anyway, like 5w30, or 5w20 or whatever......or so it would seem (thicker is better thing). So if you need a 30grade, who cares if the M1 falls into that grade over time? I still call it a win, and maybe even more so than starting with a 30 grade that shears to close to a 20.Yes the unverified and likely outdated “Mobil 1 shears” monster.
Happened to me at 112 miles - I could feel it man, did not need no darn fancy test machine, bro …Yeah hmm. Okay.
200 miles you say? How awful. I am sure that violates the stay-in-grade requirements for each approval that oil holds.
I wonder how they get away with it?
What are the definitions or limits for low, mid and full-SAPS?
