I"m curious I'm planning on doing a P/S fluid flush on my 92 accord soon it is overdue. There are many comparisons on this forum regarding motors oil, tranny fluids, gear oils ect, but I don't see that many post regarding power steering fluid comparisons. Is there a big difference in P/S brands? I have a choice between Honda OEM, Bardahl and AMSOIL?

I have always used Valvoline synpower or maxlife PSF and I have never had any issues with my PS systems.

Good luck

Valvoline says not to use their PSFs on Honda products...

I've used Bardahl in the past on my Hondas and noticed no substantial difference in steering feel. Certainly was cheaper than OEM.

I've often wondered the same. My sister owns a Honda while the rest of the family is all GM. After a lot of reading and asking I gave up. For the difference in price, I'll stick with the OEM stuff, just not worth taking a chance IMHO. I just bought a some P/S fluid from the dealership and it was $5/12 oz- about the same price as the Amsoil. Just my two cents....

yeah I like AMSOIL they always make a great product but, I"m curious myself how it can work in both hondas and non-honda vehicles when the oem fluids are different from each other.

And how do you know if their different?

Or could the Honda fluid be just a hint tad better so that cheapo PSF shouldn't be used?

Any PSF that mentions suitable for HondAcura PSF systems is good enough! You don't need the OE fluid. But, you should make an effort to use a PSF that mentions the spec.

Has been mentioned here plenty of times.

Honda type PSF are thicker than typical and has additional detergents.

I was told that Honda use Syn-blend to suppress pour point that 3rd party doesn't, so in cold weather Honda's PSF works better. For only $3.25 (I just purchased a few months ago locally) for Honda vs. $2.5 for 3rd party, I'd stay with Honda.

Use Honda approved sauces in a HOnda PS system.
It does not have to be bought at Honda, but it should specifically be stated it is OK for Honda.

I just changed my power steering fluid after 6 years on the original fill with OEM Honda fluid. The price differential was only $2 for the fill. I won't change it again for 5 year. Not a big difference and if Honda's power steering fluid has a lower pour point I need it in the winter. Seems to work.
